Lewis and Clark Viaduct I-70 Concept Study The Lewis and Clark Viaduct is a series of nine bridges that span land and water in Kansas City, Kansas.

The Lewis & Clark Viaduct Concept Study is being conducted by the Kansas Department of Transportation to examine the condition of each of the nine bridges making up the Viaduct. The Viaduct provides a vital link for I-70 across the Kansas River and connects Kansas City, Kansas with Kansas City, Missouri. The Concept Study will examine the condition of each of the nine bridges making up the viaduct and develop a priority phasing plan for rehabiltation or replacement of the existing bridges.

The Kansas Department of Transportation hosted a public open house for the I-70 Lewis & Clark Viaduct Project on Wednesday, April 23 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in Kansas City, KS.

At the open house attendees learned about the aesthetic design concept for the Lewis & Clark I-70 Viaduct, as well as a review of the project and schedule. KDOT staff were on hand to answer questions and discuss the design concept process.

FINAL PUBLIC OPEN HOUSE INVITATION: The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) is hosting a public open house for the Lewis and Clark Viaduct I-70 Concept Study on Wednesday, August 15. The public is invited to attend the open house style meeting anytime between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at the Jack Reardon Convention Center, 520 Minnesota, Kansas City, Kansas. At the open house, participants can review and provide comments on the preferred concept for the Lewis and Clark Viaduct. KDOT staff and study team members will be on hand to answer questions and discuss the study. This is the third and final public meeting that will be held as part of the concept study. US DOT Secretary Ray LaHood: The transportation budget the President proposed will create jobs and invest in infrastructure for our future; modernize transportation through focused research and technology; and press forward on our number one priority--safety.

It's been more than two years and four months since America's transportation funding expired. Congress has extended the law with short-term patches eight different times. But, with bridges crumbling and highways choked with congestion, our nation needs long-term planning.

This morning, the study team met with members of the KCK Chamber and Fairfax Industrial District to present the concept alternatives under consideration. We had some good discussion.

One of the area’s oldest spans over a major river, the Lewis and Clark Viaduct is a major link for drivers between downtown Kansas City and Kansas City, Kan. Engineers are now studying whether it should be replaced or rehabbed.
