Officer Spotlight for June is Officer Alyssa Lohse who has been with KUMC-PD for 2 1/2 years!

I wanted to become a Police Officer because I have always been passionate about helping others and serving my community. I admire the role that Officers have with keeping people safe and supporting individuals during emergency situations. The opportunity to make a positive impact, uphold the law fairly, and build trust within the community motivated me to pursue this career.
What is your favorite part about working for KUPD? My favorite part is the people. I enjoy working alongside my highly skilled, dedicated co workers. I also enjoy protecting along with supporting the patients, staff and students of KU Medical Center. What do you want the community to know when they see you? I want them to know that I am approachable, professional, and commited to serving them with respect and fairness. I want them to be comfortable coming to me for help, asking questions, and expressing concerns. My goal is to build trust through positive interactions and treat everyone with dignity while working to keep our community safe.

What is my favorite donut? Apple Fritter

We love dogs! Getting called to check on them in a hot car is not our favorite way to meet them! It gets WAY hotter in a car than most people realize.
Dogs are also social animals and become stressed out when left alone in an unfamiliar place. We ask that if you are coming to the Hospital that you make alternative arrangements for your furry friend to keep them safe and comfortable!

FAQ Friday!
What’s up with cops and donuts?

Long before 24 hr gas stations and convenience stores, Police officers working night shift used to not have anyplace to grab something to eat.
Bakers used to go into their shops early in the morning to begin baking before anyone else got up to get breakfast.
The police officers would buy donuts early in the morning from bakers and donut shops because they were the only place open.
