At CPC, Labor Day is more than the unofficial end of summer—it is a reminder of the long struggle for safe and fair working conditions, including protections for children.
During the Industrial Revolution, many children worked long hours in factories, mines and mills, often in dangerous conditions and instead of attending school. The labor movement helped expose these abuses and build support for child labor laws, workplace protections and access to education.
Although important progress has been made, the responsibility to protect children continues. This Labor Day, we remember those who fought for children’s safety—and recommit ourselves to ensuring every child is protected, valued and free to learn, grow and simply be a child.
