Today’s Indie Avenue CID Four Corners Community Call took place at Hot Shot Liquor & Groceries at 3500 Independence Ave.

This convenience market carries a full line of beverages, snacks (chips, candy, ice cream, etc) Little Debbie cakes and assorted grocery items for one-stop shopping and is a member of the International Marketplace.

Yesterday, Independence Avenue was being viewed through two different lenses—but with one shared goal: building a stronger future for our community.

At the same time, two important tours were taking place along the Avenue.

🏘️ Our Visioning Walk brought Historic Northeast residents together to help shape the next 20 years of Independence Boulevard. Participants walked the corridor and completed surveys sharing what they want to see for its future, with conversations focused on infrastructure, public safety, traffic patterns, commerce and development. Thank you Urban Hikes Kansas City for leading the way.

🚌 Meanwhile, attendees of the Governor’s Conference joined us for a ride along Independence Avenue focused on economic development, exploring the opportunities, challenges and potential that exist throughout the corridor.

Both tours concluded at the NEKC Chamber office, where MU Extension provided a presentation on our community demographics and helped educate attendees on the trends shaping our area and its future.

What made yesterday especially meaningful was having the voices of the people who live here and the perspectives of those looking at economic investment and development happening at the same time.

Different tours. Different perspectives. One Independence Avenue—and one future we are working together to shape.

Thank you to everyone who walked, rode, shared their ideas, asked questions and took the time to learn more about the Historic Northeast. ❤️

📣 For this week's Four Corners Community Call we stopped by the Express Stop (Phillips 66) at 4815 Independence Avenue—right across from Northeast Middle School.

🏫 Students are officially back in the classrooms! It’s fantastic seeing the energy back on the block. Drive carefully and watch out for kids crossing near the middle school during pickup and drop-off times.

✌🏾 A huge shoutout to the Independence Ave CID Titan Security team. They’ve been out in full force keeping the corridor safe, welcoming, and secure for students, business owners, and neighbors alike.

⛽ Convenience stores like Express Stop keep our neighborhood moving. Drop in, grab a snack, and say hello to the friendly staff working hard to serve our community daily.

WORK HARD. PLAY HARD. 💪🛝

Our Urban Street Ambassador Team puts in some serious work along Independence Avenue. From early mornings and hot days to trash, illegal dumping, overgrown lots, alleyways, storefronts, and all the unexpected things the Ave throws their way—they keep showing up and getting it done.

But even the hardest-working crew deserves a little time to play! 😂

If you see these guys out and about, give them a shout-out, a wave, a honk, or simply tell them THANK YOU. A little appreciation goes a long way for the people doing the behind-the-scenes work every single day to make our community cleaner and better.

We appreciate this crew and everything they bring to the Avenue. 💜
