Story 16 of our 45 Stories for 45 Years: Angela P.

Angela’s world was turned upside down as she faced homelessness while navigating the aftermath of a DV situation and the end of her marriage. The uncertainty left her overwhelmed and unsure of what the future held for her family.

When Angela came to reStart, she found support, guidance, and someone who believed in her. With the help of her case manager, Tyra, she was connected to resources and began building a path toward stability.

As housing became reality, hope slowly replaced fear. Today, Angela and her children finally have a safe place to call home.

Angela’s story is one of resilience, support, and the power of stable housing to change everything.

Your support helps make stories like Angela’s possible. Join us in creating more safe, stable homes for Kansas City families: https://bit.ly/4v9YPkx

Happy Juneteenth from all of us at reStart.

Today, we honor the history and significance of Juneteenth, recognizing the enduring legacy of freedom, resilience, and progress. This day is a powerful reminder of both the struggles and the strength that have shaped our communities.

We were grateful to celebrate alongside the men of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., who joined us to share the history of Juneteenth and its deep connection to their organization. Their presence helped ground the day in education, reflection, and meaningful dialogue with our participants.

They also extended an invitation to their annual blood drive and shared more about the growing partnership between Omega Psi Phi and reStart, including upcoming opportunities to support and mentor our youth.

Together, we continue working toward a future rooted in dignity, opportunity, and equity for all.

Story 15 of our 45 Stories for 45 Years: Virginia Clifton

Virginia first came to reStart in 2007 after years of trauma, addiction, and homelessness. Though her journey included setbacks and second chances, she never stopped fighting for a better future.

Nearly two decades later, Virginia returned to reStart in 2026, this time finding community, giving back, and taking the next step toward independence. On April 1, she moved into housing of her own.

"Tyra, Ms. Brenda, and Carly are awesome. They made a difference for me."

For 45 years, reStart has walked alongside neighbors like Virginia, providing pathways to stable housing and hope for brighter futures.

Last week, we had the pleasure of coming together to celebrate 10 years of Project Homeless Connect KC and the incredible impact it has made across our community. We are so grateful to Global Prairie for hosting this special reunion happy hour and helping us bring together the partners, volunteers, advocates, and friends who have made this work possible.

The evening was filled with connection, reflection, and celebration as we looked back on a decade of service and the thousands of lives touched through Project Homeless Connect KC. Thank you to everyone who joined us and have supported this mission over the years.

As we celebrate the past, we are also looking ahead. Help us bring Project Homeless Connect 2027 to life and continue connecting our neighbors experiencing homelessness with critical services and support. 🎨✨ What can happen in under two hours?
A whole lot of impact.

The team from First Federal Bank of Kansas City rolled up their sleeves at reStart's new Family Lodge and transformed two family rooms with fresh paint in less than two hours. Their energy, teamwork, and commitment helped bring us one step closer to welcoming more families with children into a safe, stable place to call home.

A special thank you to board member Daniel Montoute for helping lead the charge and bringing together a group that understands what community investment truly looks like.

Thank you, First Federal Bank of Kansas City, for helping us build the Kansas City we want to see—one room, one family, and one act of service at a time. 💙🏠
