MHAH is excited that Bristol Myers Squibb has released a new medication, Cobenfy, to treat the symptoms of schizophrenia.
In addition to being effective in reducing hallucinations and delusions ( the symptom people usually think of) this new medication also works on symptoms like lack of motivation and social withdrawal.
It also doesn’t carry the side effects of tardive dyskinesia or akakthesia (involuntary movements which are distressing, and uncomfortable)
These less recognized symptoms and side effects and can result in people stopping the medication or having difficulty fully integrating into jobs and social situations.
We are pleased that Cobenfy is available as a new tool for people futhering their recovery from this illness.

Monica Casares

Monica Casares has a professional background in homeless services and experience working with the unhoused community. She provides strengths-based service coordination, advocacy, and resource connection to support clients in achieving and maintaining stable housing.

Mary Rodriguez

Mary Rodriguez has 12 years of human service experience and has worked at The Villages, Inc. with youth who were undocumented and had experienced human, labor, and s*x trafficking. She serves as the Wellness and Support Advocate in our Lawrence housing program.

Tiff Villa

Tiff Villa has worked with domestic violence survivors and at-risk teens and brings valuable lived experience to her work. She is passionate about connecting with our clients and meeting people where they are through trauma-informed care as they work toward stability and independence.

Trudie Hall joined the board in 2021, and is an active community volunteer in the metro area with a strong commitment to Wyandotte County. Though recently retired from the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, she continues to provide leadership to several local organizations with a focus on youth and health programs.
