Week of the Young Child kicks off this Saturday, April 11th! 🎉

Each April, The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) invites educators, families, and communities to come together for a joyful celebration of early learning, young children, and the adults who support them.

Whether you're a teacher planning engaging experiences, a parent looking to celebrate at home, or a community leader ready to amplify the message, WOYC offers a wealth of resources and inspiration. From hands-on art projects and cooking explorations to building teamwork and celebrating families, each day of the week is designed to spark joy and learning.

🛁 Don’t leave water in the tub after bath time ends. Little ones are naturally curious and can quickly find their way to water, even when you least expect it. Whether you’re using a baby bathtub, bath seat, or inflatable tub, always empty them immediately after use. Store them upside down and out of children’s reach to keep your little ones safe. 💧

Research found that children in the Dolly Parton's Imagination Library program were read to significantly more. Children enrolled were 9x more likely to be read to 4 or more days per week compared to children not in the program. 👶📖

When thinking about burns and scalds, the first thing that might come to mind for many parents and caregivers is a child reaching out and touching a hot object. 🔋🚫 Powerful coin-sized button batteries, that can be found inside small electronic devices, can also expose curious young kids to burn hazards.

⚠️ Each year, there are about 3,200 calls to U.S. Poison Control Centers about a button battery being swallowed. Nearly 6 out of 10 of these cases are for children under the age of 6. When swallowed, these batteries can get stuck in the throat and cause severe burns or death.

The World’s Largest Study of Shared Book Reading Reaffirms: Early Literacy Begins at Birth. 👶📖

Research found that after just 10 books, children in the Dolly Parton's Imagination Library were at least 4x more likely to demonstrate stronger emerging literacy skills, such as vocabulary and phonological awareness, compared to children not in the program.

🌟 Before they can walk, our little ones learn to crawl on all fours. When they get older, they should learn that getting low and crawling to an exit is the best way to navigate their home in the event of a fire to avoid smoke. Fire safety doesn’t have to feel scary! Turning learning into a game can help kids remember what to do in an emergency.

As you play and practice together, remember to:

🚪 Create and practice a home fire escape plan, with two ways out of every room

🏠 Choose a safe meeting spot outside your home

🔥 If there’s smoke, get low and crawl to an exit

🚒 Leave immediately and call 911 once you’re safely outside
