The 2025 winter band concert is Tuesday, December 2nd at A.L Brown High School. The concert starts at 6:00pm and will be a joint concert with Mr. Messenger and the A.L Brown High School Bands. Mr. Messenger and I are both proud of the hard work that our students have accomplished this semester! We look forward to fun night with great music!

Good Afternoon!

My name is Jonathan Kitchens, and I am the new band director at Kannaoplis Middle School! I am originally from Cabarrus County and grew up in Harrisburg,NC. I attended Western Carolina University and graduated in 2020 with a degree in Music Education. This is my 5th year of teaching. I have previously taught in Gaston and Lancaster counties. I am passionate about music education and looking forward to continuing the excellence at Kannaoplis Middle School.

Thank you to everyone who came to our End of Year concert last week to support our KMS Band Students! We are proud of the dedication, hard work, and perseverance our students have put into their performances this school year!

This year, our Eighth Grade band performed for the grand opening of the Panda Express in Kannapolis, all three grade levels had a joint winter concert with A.L. Brown, 21 of our Eighth Grade band students traveled to Disney World and participated in the Imagination Campus Workshop, five KMS Band students were selected to participate in the Cabarrus County all county honor band, our pep band had several performances at pep rallies and basketball games, and our KMS Eighth Grade and Seventh Grade Bands both received a rating of Excellent at the Carowinds Festival of Music!

Words cannot express how proud I am of who these students are becoming and of their dedication to music and constantly working towards new goals!

Thank you to the administrators and staff at KMS who support our students every day, especially our incredible Fine Arts Department. Thank you to our KCS Board of Education and central office for supporting music education in our district and allowing us to provide performance opportunities for our students to grow as young musicians. Thank you to the parents and guardians of our students for supporting and encouraging these students to participate in band. Lastly, thank you to these students who have demonstrated patience, resilience, and growth this year!
