Mistaken Orders™ is headed to Riverside’s Westwood Oaks Independent Living, and we’re bringing all the smiles, mix‑ups, and heartwarming moments you know and love.

Our Guest Servers — individuals living with dementia — will be taking your breakfast orders, delivering plates, sharing laughs… and yes, making a few "mistakes" along the way. But that’s the magic of it. Every “oops!” becomes a moment of connection, dignity, and joy.

💜 There's a difference between helping someone and doing it for them.

When someone we love is living with dementia, our instinct is to jump in. To take over. To fix it. We button the coat. We finish the sentence. We answer for them before they have the chance.

It comes from love. It always comes from love.

But here's what we've learned: every time we step back and let them try, even slowly, even imperfectly, we are giving them something no medication can.

We are giving them themselves.

Independence isn't just a practical thing. It's dignity. It's identity. It's the quiet message that says, "I still believe in you."

Your role isn't to take over their story. It's to walk beside them while they keep telling it, for as long as they possibly can. 💜

Be the support, not the substitute.

💜 We go in thinking we're the ones giving.

We show up ready to help, to serve, to be there for someone living with dementia. We think we're bringing the light.

And then something unexpected happens.

They reach for your hand and squeeze it like they've known you forever. They tell you a story, vivid and alive, from sixty years ago, and you realize you're hearing something no one else in the room has ever heard. They laugh at something small, and suddenly the whole world feels a little lighter.

And you drive home different.

Quieter. Fuller. More grateful for things you stopped noticing.

That's the secret no one tells you about showing up for someone with dementia. You think you're the helper. But you walk away the one who was changed.

We don't just serve this community. This community teaches us — every single day — what it means to truly live. 💜

Looking for a safe, fun, and engaging summer program for your child? The Kankakee County State’s Attorney’s Office Community Division is offering a FREE summer opportunity for students in grades K–12!

💜There's a moment that changes everything.

It's not a medication. It's not a diagnosis. It's the moment someone living with dementia laughs...really laughs....because someone sat down, looked them in the eye, and said "tell me your story".

Purpose doesn't disappear with memory. Joy doesn't require a perfect mind. And no one — no one — should spend their days feeling invisible.

We show up so they never have to wonder if anyone will. 💜
