Limestone Township Fire Protection District Responds to Building Fire
Limestone Township, IL — April 17, 2026
At 7:32 p.m. on April 17, 2026, the Limestone Township Fire Protection District and Automatic Aid Companies responded to a reported building fire at 4345 W 1500 North Rd, Kankakee.
Upon arrival at 7:38 pm, crews encountered a 30-by-50-foot storage shed with smoke showing. Firefighters conducted an investigation and located a skid steer actively burning inside the structure. Crews quickly initiated fire suppression operations, successfully containing the fire to the skid steer and a small portion of the building. Crews remained on scene for approx. 1 hour.
Estimated damage from the incident is approximately $40,000. No injuries were reported.
The Limestone Township Fire Protection District was assisted on scene by Automatic-Aid Companies including Kankakee Fire Department, Bradley Fire Department, Bourbonnais Fire Protection District, Salina Fire Protection District, Herscher Fire Protection District, Braidwood Fire Protection District, and Riverside Ambulance.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
