Mahalo to ʻElepaio Social Services, which hosted a food distribution today at the Waiʻanae Boat Harbor, providing food to more than 350 households. Students from Papahana ʻo Kaiona were there to lend a hand, alongside community members.

The City is helping support food distributions like this one with $200,000 in emergency funding to Hawaiʻi Foodbank following Tropical Storm Lala. Mahalo to the many community partners and volunteers who support these food distributions and help get food to families across Oʻahu.

STAY OPEN OʻAHU

The City and County of Honolulu has launched Stay Open Oʻahu, a free program to prepare Oʻahu small businesses for disasters and disruptions, continue operating during emergencies, and recover more quickly afterward.

The program expands the Oʻahu Business Connector and offers resources including:

💻 An online hub connecting businesses with preparedness and mitigation information, nonprofits, and government assistance

📓 A Business Disaster Preparedness Guidebook Free in-person workshops to develop preparedness and continuity plans

🛜 A trusted network of community partners and City resources

Stay Open Oʻahu is set to host a series of free workshops across the island to guide business owners through the preparedness planning process. (slide 3)

More than 300 families received food yesterday at Kahuku Medical Center thanks to Hope Chapel Kahuku, community leaders and hospital staff.

‘Elepaio Social Services will host a food distribution at the Waiʻanae Boat Harbor today, Aug. 25 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.

The City is supporting these food distributions by providing $200,000 in emergency funding in the wake of Lala. We are deeply appreciative of our community partners for making these events happen!

Kauaʻi County sent crews to help us clear hundreds of downed trees across Oʻahu after Tropical Storm Lala. They are incredibly skilled with a chainsaw, which is a must when dealing with huge trunks and limbs that can be very dangerous. MOKE UPDATE

Tropical Storm Moke continues to move south of the Hawaiian Islands and as of 5 a.m. Aug. 23, the storm was about 460 miles south-southwest of Honolulu.

Meteorologists forecast that Moke will remain about 400 miles south of Honolulu into early Monday morning.

A Flood Watch remains in effect for the Big Island through Monday afternoon and a Wind Advisory remains in effect for the eastern half of the state through 6 p.m. Sunday.

No watches, warnings, or advisories are posted for Oʻahu as of 7 a.m. Aug. 23.

MOKE UPDATE

Tropical Storm Moke is forecast to stay south of O‘ahu but one to two inches of rain is expected across the island. Some windward and mountain areas could receive up to four inches of rain.

A majority of the rainfall and wind impacts are expected between midnight Sunday and 8 p.m. Monday.

The website operated by the City and County of Honolulu offers critical resources for those in need and those who want to provide assistance.

The City is providing $200,000 to Hawaiʻi Foodbank to help source and transport additional food for communities impacted by Tropical Storm Lala.

This morning, 500 households were helped by ʻElepaio Social Services at Nānākuli High and Intermediate School.

Another distribution happens this afternoon, Friday, Aug. 21, 4 to 6 p.m.: KEY Project, 47-200 Waiheʻe Road, Kāneʻohe.

Additional distributions are planned for:

• Monday, Aug. 24, 2:30 p.m.: Hope Chapel Kahuku at Kahuku Medical Center
• Tuesday, Aug. 25, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.: ʻElepaio Social Services at Waiʻanae Boat Harbor

Residents needing food assistance can also use Hawaiʻi Foodbank’s Food Assistance Finder to locate resources near them. Distribution schedules and availability may change, so residents should confirm information before traveling to a site.
