CLEANING UP WAIKĪKĪ

100 new trash bins are being installed throughout the bustling and vibrant community and neighborhood of Waikīkī. The enclosed receptacles are designed to stop ʻōpala from blowing out onto our precious beaches and ocean, while also preventing rummaging. The bins include a foot pedal for a convenient and clean hands-free operation. The installation is thanks to a partnership between the Waikīkī Business Improvement District, JTB Hawaiʻi, and the City and County of Honolulu.

A blessing marks the beginning of construction for critical infrastructure improvements at Kailua Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The $85M projects include rehabilitating biotowers and replacing a dewatering building.

Biotowers break down contaminants in wastewater before it is discharged.

The dewatering process removes excess water from sludge prior to its disposal or beneficial reuse.

These projects will serve and protect the health of Windward Oʻahu communities and the environment for generations to come.
