At 1115 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms capable of producing both
tornadoes and extensive straight line wind damage were located over
Sheffield, or 10 miles west of Kane, moving southeast at 40 mph.
HAZARD...Tornado.
SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.
IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage
to roofs, windows and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is
likely.
This tornado will be near...
Sheffield and Ludlow around 1120 PM EDT.
James City, Wetmore and Kane around 1125 PM EDT.

Instructions
Move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a well-built building
away from windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a
vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself
from flying debris.

- Stay clear of any lines down! Even if it’s not actively sparking, it could still be power!
- Do not cut or attempt to move trees with wires in them.

HAZARD...Tornado and quarter size hail.

IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed.
Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree
damage is likely.

Kane and James City around 840 AM EDT.
Wilcox around 850 AM EDT.
East Branch Dam around 900 AM EDT.
Other locations impacted by this tornadic thunderstorm include Mount

This afternoon at 1500 hrs, Station 5 was dispatched to Preston drive for a structure fire. Dispatched advised of one vehicle on fire inside an attached garage. Chief 5 arrived on scene and found a well involved vehicle in the driveway and a structure with smoke showing. C-5 then called for a 2nd alarm (working fire response). Engine 53 arrived first and began fire suppression on the vehicle and checking the structure for extension. It was found that the quick thinking of the individual working on the vehicle prevented any extension as he pushed the vehicle out of the garage before it could spread to anything else. The structure was ventilated due to heavy smoke inside but sustained no fire damage. Units operated on scene for approximately 2.5 hrs before returning to service. Thank you to all of our mutual aid departments who came out to give a hand!
