Dear Parents,
Thanks for having your kid play soccer this year. It's always fun to see them have a good time and see them learn and improve. You may have heard and noticed that we are doing things a bit different this year. After trying it out for a week we noticed a few problems that we are trying to address. Below is a summary of what we are doing along with a few changes that we have implemented to fix a few issues.
We will continue to have a camp/jamboree style of play for all the leagues. Coaches in Valley will set up the times for their kids to practice in each league. In Kanab, the 1-3 graders have practice on Tuesday and starting next week the time will move up to 5 p.m. so that it doesn't conflict with flag football. Kanab 4-6 graders have practice on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Kanab 7-9 graders have practices on Monday and Wednesday at 6 p.m. Games will stay at the same time each Saturday with 1-3 grade at 9 a.m., 4-6 grade at 10 a.m. and 7-9 at 11 a.m.
Valley Kindergartners and Preschoolers have set up their own time for practice/games. Kanab Kindergartners will meet Friday at 4 p.m. and Kanab Preschoolers will meet Saturday morning at 9 a.m. and play at the North end of the Ranchos Park.
For games, each week we will divide up into teams based on the number of kids who are healthy and able to participate. Please help your child to show up 15 minutes early so that we will have enough time to split up teams and still start games on time. 1-3 graders will meet on the West field at 8:45 a.m, 4-6 graders will meet at the North end of the park by the playgroup equipment at 9:45 a.m. and 7-9 graders will also meet by the playground equipment at 10:45 a.m.
This year it has been exceptionally hot. Please make sure that your child drinks plenty of water before their game and has plenty of water at practices and at games. We will be having a 2 minute water break during each half to make sure that kids are staying hydrated.
This year we will not be asking you to bring treats. Instead the league will provide a treat (probably popsicles) at the end of each game. If you or your business would like to sponsor an after game treat please let us know. We would love to work with you.
The Coach that is assigned to your child's game will have a bag of jerseys to hand out and pick up at each game. Coaches will make sure that the jerseys are washed each week. Please feel free to volunteer to wash the bag of jerseys for one of the coaches.
For Labor Day weekend games will be played on Friday Sept. 4 instead of Saturday Sept. 5. 1-3 grade at 5 p.m., 4-5 grade at 6 p.m., and 7-9 grade at 7 p.m. Kanab Preschoolers will also need to reschedule and the coaches will inform their kids of the new time for that week. Kanab Kindergartners will still be on Friday at 4 p.m.
We are still in need of additional volunteers to help referee. We will pay $10. Older kids with experience playing soccer are allowed to referee, particularly the younger age groups. Please contact us if you or your child is interested in refereeing. If we do not have referees for the 1-3 grade games we will ask a parent at the game to help.
Due to the continuing threat of COVID-19 we have implemented the following policies. All participants and spectators need to complete a self assessment for symptoms of COVID-19 prior to participating in or observing games or practices. The symptoms to watch out for are fever of 100.4 or higher, cough, shortness of breath, loss of taste or smell, muscle aches or pains, or sore throat. Any person who is sick, has any symptoms of COVID-19, or is under isolation due to an exposure to COVID-19 should stay at home and may not participate. Spectators are also encouraged to practice social distancing.
Thanks everyone and let's have a great year.
