Hawaii Wildfire Management Organization

Hawaii Wildfire Management Organization HWMO is a non-profit org. dedicated to protecting communities and natural resources from the devastating effects of wildfire in Hawaii.

HWMO is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has been providing the Hawaiian Islands with nationally recognized wildfire protection services since 2000. We serve as the hub of the collaborative wildfire efforts of government agencies, nongovernment organizations, and communities across Hawaii. HWMO's work includes:
1) Community-based wildfire preparedness outreach and education.
2) Vegetative fuels management projects to protect residential, commercial, and natural areas.
3) Improving firefighting capacity through training, equipment, planning, and mapping.
4) Serving as a nonprofit arm of local firefighting agencies to implement collaborative projects such as the Wildfire and Drought Lookout! campaign and fire planning.

Did you know embers from a wildfire can ignite a home up to one mile away? Fires travel along vegetation straight to your home and outbuildings. Plant trees and shrubs in clusters and leave a ten-foot space between your house and vegetation.
