Calhoun! STAY ALERT. THERE IS SEVERE WEATHER HAPPENUNG OR INCOMING. Stay alert and near a weather radio or news station. Severe threats including tornadoes, hail, and high winds. There may also be heavy rain that may lead to flash flooding. Stay ready to act and speak shelter if need be. Make sure your phones are charged and alerts are turned on in case of any active warnings. Temperature will drop over 60 degrees today into this evening with snow on the back side. Check on family and friends. If damaged is caused please keep the area clear for first responders. No looky-loos as this can prevent responders from getting to affected areas. Stay safe Calhoun!

Good evening calhoun. There is a significant storm on the way from Friday evening through the weekend. Although the forecasts keep changing, please prepare for up to 1 foot of snow and some ice accumulations. Expect very low temperatures and near impossible travel conditions. Have emergency supplies on hand in preparation for power loss. Remember that emergency responce will be very delayed. Make sure emergency heaters are for indoor use as some can be deadly if used indoor. I will try and go live on my work commute to keep road conditions up to date as I have a required job that I have to travel. Please, if you do not have to travel this weekend, please stay home. Road crews will be attempting to keep roads clear but at times this may be impossible as well. With temperatures in the negatives, road crews will have difficulty keeping up with snow and ice. If this storm advances north there is a chance for up to 2 feet of snow and significant ice. Please keep your phones charges and ready to stay tuned to weather services. Please follow and share and stay tuned for updates as forcasts become more available. Stay warm and stay safe Calhoun.

From the North Calhoun Fire Protection District

As we prepare to ring in 2026, our mission is to make sure every member of our community makes it home to their families. We want to see you in town tomorrow—not on the side of the road tonight.

🚫 If You Drink, Don't Drive

One bad decision can change your life—and the lives of others—in an instant. Illinois roads are unpredictable, especially in the winter. Don't let a celebration turn into a tragedy.

📝 Your Game Plan for Tonight:

Pick a "Sober Primary": Designate a driver before the first toast is made.

Call for a Ride: Call a sober friend.

Stay Put: If you’re celebrating at a friend’s house, ask to crash on the couch.

Watch Your Friends: If you see someone who shouldn't be behind the wheel, take their keys. They might be mad now, but they’ll thank you tomorrow.

"Our crew would much rather be at the station waiting for a call that never comes than meeting you at a scene we can't forget."

Let’s start the New Year off right. Stay safe, stay sober, and look out for one another.

Happy New Year from all of us at North Calhoun Fire! 🎆

Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the town

Everyone was resting, the radios not a sound.

As we all closed our eyes with long relaxing groans, we were woke by a sound, the drop of the tones.

We wake very quickly from our warm comfy bed, a 2 car collision it's a sound that we dread.

We run for the closet and reach for our clothes , kiss the family goodby, it's the life that we chose.

A volunteer out the door, it's off to our cars. To run our blue lights under the midnight stars.

We get to the station and start up the truck, we will make it in time, with any luck.

We race to the scene, with lights flashing so bright, for someone tonight, for life they will fight.

We try hard as we possibly can, to start the heart of a great family man.

A guy stumbles around and falls by his trunk, we all realize the other drivers a drunk.

Along comes the sheriff with sleep in his eyes, "to prison for life, if this man dies"

We call for a flight to land in the field, to move this guy quickly for a chance to be healed.

Rotors spinning and popping in this cold winter's air, we fly him to safety for a life may we spare.

It take a lot of resources working as one, to save this man's life, by a decision so dumb.

A life has been saved on this Christmas night, because of the responders who helped in this fight.
