Road Closures and Storm Response Update

Kalamazoo, MI: As of Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at 7 AM, the City of Kalamazoo is continuing to
respond to the impacts of last night’s high winds, which caused widespread downed trees and power
lines. Crews from City of Kalamazoo Public Services, Kalamazoo Public Safety, and Consumers
Energy have been working throughout the night to respond to calls, clear debris, and address
hazardous conditions.
The following streets and intersections in Vine remain closed due to downed trees and/or power lines:

• 500 Wheaton Ave
• 800 Hoffman Ct
• 727 Wheaton Ave
• Merrill St & Forest St

Please avoid these areas and adjust your morning commute accordingly while crews continue their
work. Drivers are urged to use extreme caution, as additional trees or power lines may have fallen
and not yet been reported.
Important Safety Reminder: Stay far away from any downed power lines. There is no safe way to
determine if a line is energized, and contact can be deadly.
We appreciate the community’s patience as response and recovery efforts continue. Further updates
will be provided as conditions improve.
