Named after famous African American Frederick Douglass, the Douglass Community Association (Douglass) was founded in 1919 to meet the cultural and social needs of African American soldiers returning to a segregated Kalamazoo community after World War I. Througout its history, Douglass has passionately served countless individuals and families in the Northside and greater Kalamazoo communities as a center of social, recreation, and human services.

Hey Fam,

Taking a moment to shout out and thank Veteran 1st Founder and CEO extraordinaire Toni Kennedy for her many years of dedicated board service to the historic Douglass Community Association! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🥰

She has moved on and is now deep in the trenches (y'all catch that?) as an executive director/CEO, passionately serving veterans - and she goes hard in the paint! IYKYK

She has weekly office hours at Northside Association for Community Development- NACD specifically to support veterans, with securing benefits, connecting with resources, lots of stuff - we've seen her in action and she 👏🏾does👏🏾not👏🏾come👏🏾to👏🏾play about veterans!

Next week she is hosting a conference at the Radisson focused on women veterans, but open to all to attend,- please share the info, support if you can, check out the lineup below...

Hey Fam,

📣📣📣FYI FOR TUESDAY, 6/2:

NO PARKING IN THE LOT at the historic Douglass Community Association...you'll see why when you come through or go by, a giant crane will be lifting and moving things around. We're getting some roof work done.

Business as usual inside - for us and our tenants/ partners, you have to park on W. Paterson and enter through the front.

Back back gate behind parking lot will be locked also, those walking please come around front.

Diaper Distribution will still be 11a-1p.
