When you call 911, you expect the people responding to be ready.

That level of preparedness doesn't happen by accident—it comes from training, repetition, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

In this video, Captain Matt Dawson shares why training is such a critical part of what we do, how our firefighters prepare for a wide variety of emergencies, and how additional funding could help expand those opportunities in the future.

We invite you to take a few minutes to learn more about your fire department.

Congratulations to FF/EO Abby Wheeler on passing her Fire Inspector certification exam! 🎉🚒

This is a major accomplishment and a testament to Abby’s dedication to the fire service, professional growth, and the safety of our community. Earning Fire Inspector certification requires extensive knowledge of fire codes, life safety standards, building construction, fire protection systems, and hazard recognition.

Abby has become an invaluable part of our fire prevention efforts, and this achievement reflects the hard work and commitment she continues to invest in her career. As our department plans for the future, developing talented professionals from within our organization is incredibly important, and Abby continues to demonstrate the qualities of a leader.

Of course, an accomplishment this sweet deserved a celebration, so we made a stop at TC Scoops for some well-earned ice cream! 🍦

Please join us in congratulating Abby on this outstanding achievement. We are proud of all she has accomplished and excited to see what the future holds.

Many of the most important functions of a fire department happen before an emergency ever occurs.

Today, Texas Township provides fire prevention services through a paid-on-call Fire Marshal who oversees inspections, code enforcement, fire investigations, plan reviews, and public education efforts. These services help protect residents, businesses, and visitors throughout the community.

As Texas Township continues to grow, so does the demand for these services. New development, business growth, and increasing community needs create additional responsibilities that require time and attention.

A full-time Fire Marshal position would provide dedicated staffing focused exclusively on fire prevention and community risk reduction. This would allow the department to build upon the services currently provided while ensuring the capacity to meet the future needs of our growing community.

The proposed position recognizes the increasing scope of fire prevention responsibilities and the value of having dedicated personnel available to focus on those responsibilities every day. By investing in prevention, the department can continue supporting safe growth, protecting property, and helping reduce risks before emergencies occur.

If approved, the proposed fire millage would allow the department to establish a full-time Fire Marshal position dedicated to serving Texas Township and supporting the long-term safety of our residents, businesses, and visitors.

One of the many things that makes Texas Township a great place to live is the incredible local businesses that call it home. One excellent local destination—now open for lunch—is Texas Corners Brewing Company!

From great food and drinks to a welcoming atmosphere, they've created a gathering place that brings our community together. We appreciate their continued support of the Fire Department and their commitment to making Texas Township a vibrant place to live, work, and visit.

We encourage you to support the businesses that support our community.

Up next in our fleet spotlight series is Rescue 1104, and FF/EO Nathan Markus is here to tell us a little more about it.

Rescue 1104 is a 2010 Chevrolet 2500HD that serves as our primary rescue and utility vehicle. This truck responds to a wide variety of incidents, carrying specialized equipment used for vehicle crashes, technical rescues, hazardous materials incidents, and other emergencies.

Like many vehicles in our fleet, Rescue 1104 wasn't originally purchased for the role it serves today. As department needs evolved, the vehicle was repurposed and outfitted to meet the growing demands of our community. While it continues to serve us well, years of emergency response, Michigan weather, and daily use have begun to take their toll.

Rust and corrosion have become ongoing concerns, and maintaining the vehicle requires continued investment. While routine maintenance helps extend its service life, aging vehicles become increasingly expensive to keep on the road and reliable when our residents need them most.

Rescue 1104 is an important part of our emergency response system, helping our firefighters bring the right equipment to the right place at the right time. Through long-term planning and investment, we can continue providing reliable emergency services while preparing for the future needs of Texas Township.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about your fire department and the equipment that helps us serve our community every day.
