Comstock Township Parks and Recreation

Comstock Township Parks and Recreation Cooper Park is named after the famous Author James Fenimore Cooper. He was a relative of Horace Comstock and visited this area.

Comstock Township public parks originated in 1936 with the appointment of a Park Commission.Merrill Park was the first public park opened in 1939, and was named after Thomas Merrill. in 1964, the current bridge at Cooper Park was installed. This is the unofficial trademark of Comstock Township. On August 28, 1996 President Bill Clinton gave a speech at Merrill Park. In the summer of 1999, General

Motors donated 16.5 acres to Comstock to use as Green Meadow Park. In 2011 Comstock Township Parks and Recreation received a Department of Natural Resources (DNR) grant for Robert Morris Park improvements. In 2016, a second DNR grant was awarded for improvements at Merrill Park. Stay tuned for updates on Merrill Park improvements in 2018! On Wednesday, June 3 from 1-3 PM, we'll be having another invasive plant removal workday at Cooper Park (6183 Oran Ave, Kalamazoo, MI 49048)! 🌿

Sessions run the first Wednesday of each month through October, from 1 -3 PM. We'll work at Cooper Park until it's clear of invasives, then we'll move on to the next park in the series.
