Today we take time to honor and remember Juneteenth, the day Union troops informed slaves in Texas that the Civil War had ended and they had been freed.
Please take time to find an event to join in this weekend. Team Rogers will be at Rooted’s event tomorrow.

It has been an interesting week full of ups and downs, and since we have been canvassing some of the more rural parts of the county, I’ve spoken with several residents who began refusing my literature. In many of these cases I found a way to connect. Today, a woman wearing a shirt with a hospital name initially refused. I said, “Well I’m a physical therapist and that’s why I got involved in politics- because of issues my patients were facing.” She then asked what party I was affiliated with and I said, “Democrat!” She then said, “Oh! Usually only Republicans come way out here. Thank you for stopping- you have my vote.”

Yesterday I was double booked but my team was out to support Michigan Nurses Association at their rally to save our hospitals. We cannot let HR1/Big Ugly Bill destroy our healthcare systems.
(Also, thanks to my #1 fan, my RN mom Marie!)

Last term, I was proud to champion my bill, HB 4555, which was signed into law on June 12, 2023, permanently establishing Women Veteran’s Recognition Day in Michigan. Today, we honor the over 44,000 women veterans who have served our country with courage, sacrifice, and strength. As the ranking Democrat on the Military and Veterans subcommittee, I will continue working to ensure Michigan veterans, including women veterans, have access to the benefits, health care and support they have earned.
