Over the weekend, Kalamazoo Public Safety and WMU Public Safety responded to Haenicke Hall for a report of a person stuck in an elevator. Once she was safely out, she thanked responders with a behind-the-scenes tour of the lab she works in 🐠🧫🔬🧪

We always enjoy opportunities to learn more about the incredible research happening on campus!

Yesterday, we shared a story about a young fawn that was helped by caring community members after being struck by a vehicle. Today, we found ourselves helping another little one!

While hiking at Asylum Lake, a local resident named Josh came across an injured fawn with a broken leg. Concerned for its well-being, he reached out to see if we could help. After coordinating with a local wildlife rescue, we were able to locate a licensed wildlife rehabilitator who agreed to take the fawn. We're happy to report the little one is now in great hands and has the best possible chance at a successful recovery!🦌

With the recent storms and the abundance of wildlife around campus and the surrounding area this time of year, we're reminding everyone to stay alert while driving and enjoying local trails. If you encounter wildlife that appears injured or in distress, contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator or the appropriate authorities for guidance.

A big thank you to Josh and Forgotten Souls Rescue and Rehab for taking the time to help this little one. We appreciate community members who look out for both people and wildlife. 🤎

Earlier today, officers on patrol noticed a couple of citizens trying to help a fawn that had been struck by a vehicle.

The fawn appeared to have only minor injuries but was understandably scared and hesitant to move. To help keep it safe, officers carefully carried it to a shaded wooded area near where its mother had last been seen.

We've been checking on the little one throughout the day, and we're happy to report that both the fawn and its mother have since left the area together 💛🦌🦌🤎

A big thank you to the citizens who took the time to stop and help!

Public Notice: Road Impacts for the Zeigler Kalamazoo Marathon

Please be advised that on Sunday, April 26, 2026, the Zeigler Kalamazoo Marathon will take place throughout the Kalamazoo area. This event will result in temporary road closures and traffic delays along and near the marathon route.

Motorists are encouraged to review the attached map for specific route details and plan travel accordingly. To minimize delays, it is recommended to avoid traveling near the marathon course during event hours whenever possible.
