This week serves as a time to recognize and remember the men and women in law enforcement who dedicate their lives to serving and protecting their communities. It is also a time to honor the officers across this country who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty and the families who continue to carry that loss.

Behind every call for service is a person willing to step into difficult, unpredictable, and often dangerous situations to help others. From responding to emergencies and investigating crimes to building relationships throughout the community, the work of law enforcement extends far beyond what many people see day to day.

Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is proud to recognize the commitment, professionalism, and sacrifice of law enforcement officers here in Kalamazoo and across the nation.

As of Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 5:30 PM, the City of Kalamazoo is pleased to report that all city streets and intersections have been cleared and are now fully open.

Over the past three days, crews from City of Kalamazoo Public Services, Public Safety, Emergency Management, and Consumers Energy have worked continuously to restore the city to full operations following the high wind event. More than 60 locations across the city were impacted by downed trees and/or power lines obstructing streets and sidewalks.

All departments coordinated closely to identify affected areas and prioritize response efforts, ensuring that hazards were addressed as quickly and safely as possible. Public Services deployed multiple crews, utilized contracted private tree removal specialists, and received assistance from a neighboring jurisdiction to manage the significant volume of debris. We appreciate the communityโ€™s patience and cooperation throughout this process.

During response operations, crews encountered some obstructed streets that had not been previously reported. Residents who discover any remaining or newly obstructed streets are encouraged to report them by calling 311 or (269) 337-8000.

Residents whose homes were impacted by the storm have been connected with the American Red Cross for shelter and support services. Residents whose homes have sustained severe damage and are uninhabitable are encouraged to contact the American Red Cross at 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767) for immediate assistance with shelter and essential resources. Residents experiencing less severe damage may also call this number for referrals to available volunteer assistance.

Thank you to our residents, partners, and crews for working together to help Kalamazoo safely recover from this storm.
