The USS Ted Stevens is coming to Juneau!

There will be a block party on Thursday, October 8, 2026, from 4:00–8:00 PM on Front Street.

If you'd like a free tour, go to usstedstevens.org. Tours will be on both Thursday and Friday from 12 PM to 4: 15 PM

Thank you to the Juneau Downtown Business Association and the Navy League for hosting this event. I will definitely be there and look forward to seeing our community come together to welcome the USS Ted Stevens and crew and enjoy the live music and artist booths.

On Thursday, October 8, we're hosting a block party on Front Street to celebrate the USS Ted Stevens! High Costa Livin' will bring the live music, and you'll also find a photo booth, artist booths, and plenty more. The party is free and open to the public, so bring the family, your neighbors, and anyone else who'd like to give this ship a proper Juneau welcome.

Everyone is invited to celebrate blueberries on Saturday, October 10, at 9:30 a.m. at the Blueberry Festival at the Klukwan ANS Hall!

Stop by for blueberry pancakes, creative contests, and plenty of blueberry-themed fun. You can also enter your own homemade blueberry jam or jelly, baked goods, artwork, or writing.

October is National Principals Month!

Thank you to all of our principals and assistant principals for the leadership, dedication, and care you bring to your schools each day. As instructional leaders, you play a vital role in supporting students, educators, and school communities across Alaska.

Last month, I had the opportunity to visit Gustavus School and see Principal McSpadden's incredible work firsthand. Her commitment to supporting her staff, strengthening reading instruction, and expanding career and technical education opportunities was impressive.

Tomorrow, Saturday, October 3rd, is St. Vincent de Paul’s annual Walk a Mile in My Shoes awareness event and fundraiser. I hope to see you there.

The event begins at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Housing and Shelter, 8617 Teal Street. The event will include neighborhood routes, shelter tours, and a hot dog lunch.

Proceeds help raise funds for and awareness of the services St. Vincent de Paul provides to people in need throughout Juneau.

Come out and support the Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé football team as they celebrate Senior Night this Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Park in Juneau.

The Senior Recognition Ceremony begins at 2:30 p.m., followed by the varsity kickoff at 3:00 p.m. against the Bartlett Golden Bears.

The JV game will take place earlier in the day at 12:00 p.m.

JDHS will host a first-round playoff game no matter the outcome.
