Moving comes with a long checklist — boxes, address changes, utilities…and don’t forget your voter registration! 📦🏠

Wisconsin law requires voters to meet the residency requirements for the municipality and voting district where they cast their ballot. Intentionally voting when you do not meet the required voter qualifications and residency requirements is election fraud under **Wis. Stat. § 12.13(1)(a)**.

If you’ve moved, take a moment before Election Day to make sure you know where you should vote. Wisconsin generally requires you to live at your new address for **28 consecutive days before an election** to vote from that address. If you moved within Wisconsin fewer than 28 days before Election Day, Wisconsin law generally directs you to vote from your **former ward or municipality**, if you are otherwise qualified to vote there.

✅ Moved 28 days or more before Election Day? Make sure your voter registration reflects your new residence.

✅ Moved within Wisconsin fewer than 28 days before Election Day? You may still need to vote at your former ward or municipality for that election.

🏠 **Your residence determines where you vote and which ballot you receive.**

Not sure where you should vote? Check your information with MyVote Wisconsin or contact your municipal clerk before casting your ballot. A quick check can make Election Day easy and help ensure you’re voting in the correct municipality and receiving the correct ballot.

📬 Received a voter registration or absentee ballot mailing you weren’t expecting?

As the November 3 election approaches, outside groups are sending election related mail to Wisconsin voters. These mailings may contain errors or make you think you are not registered when you are. Some include prefilled absentee ballot applications. They are not sent on behalf of the Wisconsin Elections Commission.

Before you fill out or return anything, check your information at MyVote.wi.gov. Wisconsin’s official voter website lets you:

✅ Check your registration status
✅ Update your address or registration information
✅ Request an absentee ballot
✅ Find your municipal clerk

If you have moved, changed your name, or have not voted in four or more years, check whether your registration needs to be updated. For questions about a mailing, contact your municipal clerk and rely on official election information at MyVote.wi.gov.
