Know an artist, or are you an artist yourself? The Juneau-Douglas City Museum is accepting applications from artists interested in mounting an exhibition between November 2027 and February 2028 🧑‍🎨

Kirsa Hughes-Skandijs displayed “A Stitch In Time” in October 2025, and she says her experience was worth it: “It's deeply meaningful to share the walls with Juneau's history, and displaying contemporary art there creates a conversation between past and future, even if it's not a focus of the show,” she shares. “First Fridays and other events at the City Museum draw a broad cross-section of the town. I also liked how structured the process was once I was accepted. I felt very supported and like I had a road map to a successful exhibit.”

Want to apply? Get your application at www.juneau.org/library/museum/exhibit-opportunities or the City Museum 📝 Applications are due Saturday, October 31 at 11:59 p.m.

Susan Watson, who displayed her exhibit “Meeting Awareness” in January 2026, enjoyed her experience. “The City Museum offers a beautiful, professional space for Juneau artists to exhibit their work,” she shares. “I loved showing my paintings there and I encourage other artists to apply.”

Important news: the Juneau-Douglas City Museum will transition its summer hours starting Friday, July 10 to Wednesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This change comes after the CBJ Assembly made the difficult decision last month to reduce the facility’s funding due to declining city revenue.

We thank you, Juneau, for your patience as we navigate this transition. To support the museum’s summer operational hours, the museum is receiving a one-time, non-expiring $45,000 donation from Norwegian Cruise Line. The donation will be used to hire seasonal museum attendants, who have supported the museum’s open hours in summers past.

While the museum will be closed this weekend in observance of Independence Day, you can come visit during open hours or check out the museum’s upcoming author talk on July 10. The museum also has an active volunteer base – if you would like to help staff the front desk, contact Catherine Melville at [email protected].

We appreciate the community’s support and questions. We’ll continue to share updates about the museum on our page and at www.juneau.org/library/museum.

Patrick Bringley Author Talk & Book Signing
TODAY: Friday, July 10th, 2026, 7:00 p.m.
UAS Egan Lecture Hall

The City Museum is thrilled to bring New York Times bestselling author Patrick Bringley to Juneau for an author talk and book signing at the UAS Egan Lecture Hall on Friday, July 10th at 7:00 p.m. This is a free event. Bringley will discuss his experience working as a guard in the Metropolitan Museum of Art as documented in his memoir, All the Beauty in the World. This book was the inspiration for the exhibition at the City Museum entitled, Slow Beauty. Copies of All the Beauty in the World will be available at the event while supplies last.

Patrick Bringley is the New York Times bestselling author of All the Beauty in the World, a memoir about his decade working as a guard at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Named one of the best books of the year by the New York Public Library, the Financial Times, Audible, the Sunday Times (London), and others, the book has resonated globally, with translated editions from Brazil to Ukraine to South Korea, where it became a number one national bestseller. Patrick starred in an Off-Broadway production of All the Beauty in the World, a “spellbinding” (the Wall Street Journal) solo play he adapted from his book, and has spoken at institutions around the world, including the National Gallery of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Dallas Museum of Art, the University of Virginia, and venues in Dubai, London, Oxford, and Seoul. Patrick has been featured in The New Yorker, The New York Times, and The Guardian, and has appeared on CBS, ABC, Fox, NPR, and the BBC. He lives with his wife and children in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.

This free event was made possible with funding through the Friends of the Juneau Douglas City Museum and Juneau Community Foundation’s Blackwell Fund. Special thanks to University of Alaska Southeast, Coastal Helicopters, Alaska’s Capital Inn, and Jaylene’s Alaska Tours for supporting Patrick Bringley’s first visit to Alaska.
