🐻📸 Bears in public spaces are not participating in a meet-and-greet.

Bears can often get stuck in trees or other areas and get crowded by people wanting to take pictures.

Please leave them alone and give them plenty of space. Don’t approach, follow, or crowd a bear for a photo. If your photos look like the ones attached, you're to close.

A moose in Juneau? Yes! And, yes we know about it! And no, it's not unheard of, though it is uncommon. In the fall, moose will cover more ground in search of mates and it's likely that is just what this bull moose was doing. Moose are very unpredictable and you should not approach them. Always give them space and it's ok to run should one come your way.

Pictured: Not the moose sighted in Juneau. This moose was photographed in Denali National Park.

Today, the Juneau Police Department stood with our community and fellow first responders in honoring those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. We remember the courage of the first responders who rushed toward danger, the selfless actions of everyday citizens who helped one another, and the service members who answered the nation's call in the years that followed. May their sacrifices never be forgotten, and may we continue to uphold the unity and strength that emerged in the midst of tragedy.
