Attention residents of Piute County,

Piute County has transitioned from Code Red to Everbridge as our new public alerting system. We believe this platform will better serve our county and provide the flexibility needed to keep our citizens informed.
Please note that Everbridge is an "opt-in" platform. To receive emergency alerts, you must register at the following link:
https://member.everbridge.net/index/88684095340645
During registration, you may sign up family members who need assistance and include multiple locations for which you wish to receive notifications.
Please note: When registering, the page may display Sevier County, but this system also serves Piute and Wayne Counties. County names will be updated soon.
Thank you for your understanding as we make this transition. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the change in platforms and encourage you to sign up and share this information with others.

Thanks,
Deputy Troy Kennedy

PIUTE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 4TH, 2025

On Wednesday, September 3rd, 2025, a traffic stop was initiated by an Emery County Sheriff’s Deputy for excessive speed. The suspect vehicle fled from the Sheriff’s Deputy resulting in a pursuit, which was shortly terminated due to lost visual with the suspect vehicle. The suspect's vehicle information was then relayed to Richfield Communications Center. The suspect was heading West bound on I-70 where several short pursuits ensued but were terminated by law enforcement personnel in Sevier County due to the suspect’s vehicle reaching high speeds and blacking out the lights on his vehicle.

Piute County Sheriff’s Deputies Troy Kennedy and Erik Christensen were posted at the North end of Marysvale Canyon assisting Sevier County Sheriff’s Office, in an effort to locate the vehicle and driver, when the vehicle was spotted. Piute County Deputies tried to initiate a traffic stop near the mouth of the canyon, but the suspect fled at a high rate of speed. Piute and Sevier County Deputies then pursued through Piute County. The suspect vehicle was spiked 7 miles into Garfield County by State Troopers. The suspect vehicle then left the highway crashing into small brush and the suspect then fled the vehicle on foot running up a mountain side. The suspect pursued by State Troopers, Piute Deputies, and the DPS Helicopter. The suspect was apprehended and taken to Sevier County Jail by Piute County Deputies Kennedy and Christensen. The suspect was charged with multiple offenses including felony evading.

Thank you to the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office, Utah Highway Patrol, Utah DPS Helicopter and Garfield County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in the apprehension of the suspect.

Piute County Sheriff’s Office has been notified by Rocky Mountain Power of the possible planned power outage for the residents in Marysvale that are west of the LDS Church and up Bullion Canyon to the Fireman's Park. Rocky Mountain Power advised that if the power were to be shut off, it would be from the hours of 7 am to 7pm on Saturday the 21st of June. This would affect approximately 61 homes west of the LDS Church. No other area in Piute County will be affected. If this changes, we will post an update. If you require power for oxygen or other life saving devices, please be prepared and take all preparations to be without power for a while.

Utah Amendment C establishes in Utah’s constitution that county sheriffs will continue to be elected by voters. Sheriffs have been elected since America's founding to uphold law enforcement and protect civil values.

If this is how we do it why is this needed? In the recent past, aggressive county councils have suggested sheriffs would be better appointed and subject to their political decisions rather than have an independent sheriff subject to the people.

It is critical that your sheriff and our deputies stay closely connected to the community, aligning local law enforcement with the values and priorities of the people we serve.

Amendment C is straightforward; it has bipartisan support; and it ensures that how Utah does it now, is how Utah will do it in the future.
