Is your child’s car seat as secure as it can be? 🚗👶

Did you know that, according to safety experts, nearly half of all car seats are installed incorrectly? Even the best, top-rated seats can’t do their job perfectly if they aren't fitted right.

While you're planning your visit to our upcoming check lane (all the details are in the graphic below!), here are a few quick tips to keep in mind:

The Pinch Test: Once your child is buckled in, try to pinch the harness strap at the shoulder. If you can pinch any webbing between your fingers, the straps are too loose.

The 1-Inch Rule: Grab the car seat at the belt path and give it a firm tug. It shouldn't move more than one inch side-to-side or front-to-back.

Can't make it to the event on June 13th? No worries at all! Safety shouldn't have to wait for a specific calendar date. You can always email us at [email protected] or call the police department directly to ask questions or to schedule a free, private appointment with a certified technician on a day and time that works better for your schedule.

Please join us in welcoming Officer Newman to the Junction City Police Department.

Officer Newman was officially sworn in last week, taking the oath to serve and protect our community. It is a commitment we do not take lightly, and we are glad to have him on the team.

If you see Officer Newman out in the community, be sure to say hello and help us make him feel at home here in Junction City.

Welcome aboard, Officer Newman.

A reminder for everyone heading to our city parks, and North Park in particular: parking on the grass is not allowed.

With baseball season underway, we know parking can get tight at the complex when multiple games are running at the same time. Officers have already issued warning tickets to drivers parked on the grass or blocking the roadway, and we want to make sure everyone is aware that this is a ticketable offense.

One exception to be aware of: the Parks Department has set up an overflow parking area on a grass lot on the west side of Thompson Drive, marked by two concrete barricades. Parking on the grass is permitted in that lot only.

The map below is a rough representation of where parking is allowed. There are still designated no-parking sections within the highlighted areas, so please follow the posted signs at the park.
Thanks for helping us keep our parks looking good. Have a great season.

Today we pause to remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

As a community directly connected to Fort Riley, Memorial Day carries deep meaning here in Junction City. Many of our own officers are veterans, and so are our neighbors, friends, and family members. The weight of this day is felt across our department and across our community.

From all of us at JCPD, thank you to the fallen, and to the loved ones who keep their memory alive.

Please take a few minutes to read through this forecast from the National Weather Service. Severe storms are expected to develop this afternoon with hail, damaging winds, tornado potential, and flash flooding all on the table.

A few things we want to emphasize:
Junction City does not have a public tornado shelter. If you do not have a safe place at home, reach out to neighbors, friends, or family and make that plan now, not later.

No travel after 5pm is advised. If you have errands or appointments, take care of them early or reschedule.

Have multiple ways to receive alerts and keep your phones and devices charged.

Watch for cancellations from USD 475, the city, and the county as the day progresses.

Stay weather aware and look out for one another, Geary County.
