As you are all likely aware by now, there have been decisions made by the Mayor in removing Chief Elam and replacing him with Scott Terry, who was chief prior to June 2015, when this page was established. In doing so, all members associated with this page are no longer affiliated with the Junction City Fire Department.
We have worked diligently since 2015 to rebuild and make this a station that our community can have pride in. Our members have trained hard and (we hope) served you well by responding to calls, installing detectors as needed, teaching fire safety to school and preschool kids, and so much more. We have been humbled by the support we have received over the years and hope that you know we've made every effort to be there when you need us most.
We are not happy with today's turn of events, but do not wish to speak further on that. We will say, history has shown us a few things and one of those is that legacy -- which is so very important in the fire service -- is not always preserved and cherished by some individuals in positions of power. This same history has shown us it is important to hold on to the legacy and the memories for they could be lost if entrusted to the wrong individuals. So that is what we, the admin behind this page, are opting to do.
We have made this an unofficial department page instead of turning it over to the city. We want to maintain the legacy and the pride in our community which we have worked so hard to document these last 10 years on this very page. From Halloweens to Christmas parties, from school visits to community events, it is all found within this page and its posts. It not something we want to lose, even if we are no longer allowed to serve our community in this capacity.
Perhaps someday, things will be different.
But for now, we simply say thank you. Thank you to our friends and neighbors for your continued support and for helping us make Junction City proud. We hope we have served you well over these years.
Many of us will see you again, perhaps wearing different gear. Fire service, emergency service, is in your blood. You can't simply stop serving the community. And we will not.
However, we may not continue to post updates on here. Please go see our friends at First Response Auxiliary, formerly the Junction City Fire Department Auxiliary, to follow their continued efforts and changes.
Again, thank you for letting us serve you. We hope we did it well.
