Gov. Mike Kehoe recently announced a gubernatorial appointment.

Cody Smith, of Joplin, was appointed to the Children’s Trust Fund Board. Smith is the senior director of government affairs and strategic initiatives for Compass Academy Network. He previously served as the state representative for the Missouri House of Representatives, District 163, and was appointed by the speaker of the house to serve on the Children’s Trust Fund Board during that time.

STARTING SALARY RANGE: $45,000.00-$50,000.00; actual salary commensurate with applicable education and experience.

DESCRIPTION: This is a highly responsible, professional, partisan position in the House Budget Chair's Office. This position is full-time and is eligible for Missouri state employee benefits. The position is located at the State Capitol Building in Jefferson City, Missouri.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The employee in this position attends Budget Committee hearings and other budget-related meetings to provide support to committee members; researches and prepares budget and policy analyses and summaries for the Budget Chair, Chief of Staff, and budget analysts; and takes detailed notes during Budget Committee and Budget Subcommittee hearings. This employee also provides excellent customer service to legislators, House staff, and guests to the office and to the House of Representatives; triages inquiries and meeting requests; contributes to the overall office organization, including calendar and meeting management; and performs constituent work, as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS: Successful applicants must have knowledge of the state budget process, be able to exercise strict confidentiality of office conversations, strategies, and work product; must maintain professionalism in a high pressure, fast-paced environment, adapt to various situations, and prioritize multiple work assignments simultaneously while managing various interruptions and still meeting deadlines. Applicants require strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, possess a valid driver’s license and be able to lift more than 10 pounds. Applicants must be available to work extremely long hours during the legislative session from January through May.

James Morris, of Jasper, was appointed as the Jasper County Eastern District Commissioner.

Mr. Morris is the bookkeeper for Jim Morris Roofing and Remodeling and the owner of Light of Faith Resources. He previously worked as an independent contractor for Classical Conversations – Joplin South. In addition to his professional career, he currently serves on the Jasper County Republican Central Committee, volunteers as an athletic director and coach for Carthage Area Christian Athletes, and leads a youth group at Prairie Flower Bible Church. Morris earned his diploma in crisis response from the International ALERT Academy.

STATE RELEASES AUGUST 2025 GENERAL REVENUE REPORT

State Budget Director Dan Haug recently announced that net general revenue collections for August 2025 increased by 9.5 percent compared to those for August 2024, up from $942.7 million last year to $1.03 billion this year. Net general revenue collections for 2026 fiscal year-to-date increased 5.3 percent compared to August 2024, up from $1.78 billion last year to $1.87 billion this year.

Governor Kehoe to Hold Press Conference to Announce Missouri Attorney General Appointment

Today, Tuesday, August 19, at 10:00 a.m., Governor Mike Kehoe will hold a press conference at the Missouri State Capitol to announce his appointment to replace Andrew Bailey as Attorney General of the State of Missouri, following his appointment as Co-Deputy Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Governor Kehoe Announces Jasper County Appointment

Governor Mike Kehoe announced that Kimberly Clinton, of Webb City, was appointed as the Jasper County Circuit Clerk. Ms. Clinton was the senior deputy court clerk for Judge Dean G. Dankelson, having served the 29th Judicial Circuit Court of Jasper County since 2001. She holds a Future Secretaries of America certification and a certificate of completion for the Deputy Court Clerk Judicial Education through the Office of State Courts Administrator. Clinton attended Missouri Southern University in Joplin.
