Joplin Police Department

Joplin Police Department Welcome to the Official Joplin Police Department page. The Joplin Police Department serves a population of approximately 50,000 citizens.

This swells to roughly 270,000 people on any given day, within a 35-square-mile area. Our authorized number of officers is 113 with a support staff of 53 civilian employees. Joplin Police Department is an internationally accredited police service, with a mission to deliver high-quality, professional police services to Joplin’s citizens and visitors every day. The department’s philosophy lends itse

lf to a highly-trained and competent staff that is innovative in its approach to crime control, traffic safety, and improving the quality of life for Joplin citizens. The Joplin Police Department social media page is intended to help distribute information to the public and the community we serve in an effort to be as transparent as possible. The Joplin Police Department and the City of Joplin reserves the right to restrict or remove any content that is deemed in violation of its social media policy or any applicable law. Furthermore, due to the increased number of post comments that are in violation of City of Joplin social media policy guidelines, which includes posts that are spam, contain clickjacking, click injections, and other comments that are offensive, denigrating, and/or completely out of context, the Joplin Police Department Facbook page will now limit the ability for public comments on posts. Examples of other violations include post comments that contain profane language or content, content that promotes, fosters or perpetuates discrimination of protected classes, sexual harassment content, solicitations of commerce or advertisements including promotion or endorsement, promotion or endorsement of political issues, groups or individuals, conduct or encouragement of illegal activity, information that may tend to compromise the safety or security of the public or public systems, content intended to defame any person, group or organization, content that violates a legal ownership interest of any other party, such as trademark or copyright infringement, making or publishing of false, vicious or malicious statements concerning any employee, the City or its operations, violent or threatening content, or the disclosure of confidential, sensitive or proprietary information. The change post comment ability is effective February 13th, 2024. This is an unfortunate stance that must be taken as the burden of adequately monitoring, filtering, and addressing these issues has become to great. We appreciate the support of the community we serve. Feel free to reach us through Facebook messenger, or you can reach the Joplin Police Department at 417-623-3131.

🔥🚓Joplin Police Special Olympics Torch Run

On Thursday, May 21st, officers and employees from the Joplin Police Department proudly joined law enforcement agencies across the nation in support of Special Olympics during the annual Torch Run.

As "Guardians of the Flame," our team carried the torch through Joplin before passing it on to Webb City Police. The run in Joplin began on 32nd St and covered 6.8 miles as our team proudly represented our community and supported Special Olympics athletes everywhere.

We are proud to stand alongside our fellow agencies and continue this incredible tradition of unity, support, and inspiration.

Today marks the fourth anniversary of the murder of Kenneth Jay Mathews. At 6:06 PM on May 16, 2022, Mr. Mathews was shot multiple times as he and a friend were walking in the 400 block of South Connor Avenue. He was a father, brother, and uncle, and a dear friend to many. Over the past four years, investigators have followed up on over 60 leads and interviewed nearly as many people in an attempt to identify and charge the suspect(s) in this case. While we have received several helpful tips from the community, we are still seeking information. If you have information regarding this case, please contact Detective Sergeant Jason Stump at (417) 623-3131 ext. 1620.
