Japanned finish on hardware was pretty popular in Victorian homes. It’s a copper and black tiger looking affect. I love it and was hoping to find it on these. However I found unoriginal hardware. It looks like they changed the windows from opening at the bottom to opening on the side. It had to happen a long time ago because the hinges had several coats of paint on them. I don’t know the why for the change, but still a cool note on the house. Anyway, I will be making them to look like they have the Japanned finish so yeah… Murphysburg Residential District Inc- Joplin, Missouri

You are invited to dinner!
I am pretty sure the finish under these is similar to the Dangerfield house, It’s japanned and I love it. So excited to see what we got in the morning!

So the Dangerfield home had 52 windows that had to be repaired and reglazed, 90 percent of them were double hung. The John Johnson has 32 ish and half are casement windows. However there is a colonial grid on most of them so each tiny individual pane must be reglazed. So I can’t tell if this is going to take longer on not. Stay tuned… also we have two huge iron windows on the front with a million panes that’s going to be a new one to figure out.

What a hoot! Yesterday I was able to go with my friend Paula from the Murphysburg Residential District Inc- Joplin, Missouri on the KSN 16 Living Well TV Show and talk about MP Treasure Hunt this weekend. It’s going to be really fun so if you haven’t got your tickets, you can get them online or the day of and come see me since I am famous now 😂. (I heard that the proceeds are going to these awesome historic street signs).
Also they gave me the title of Murphysburg Co-Chair and now there’s no takes backseys so I will be signing my name with that following from now on. Downtown Joplin Alliance

Took my brothers on a field trip today so they could see our latest project while they were in town for my dad’s retirement party. As you can tell we are not exactly a shy and unopinionated family. Also my brother Jacob may be a “leather hobbyist,” but a cameraman he is not. 😂😂
Not quite the fun surprise I was hoping to find behind there, but glad it’s not some creepy mural. So now the plan is to just replace it with real leather and call it a day. Murphysburg Residential District Inc- Joplin, Missouri Jacob Simmons

This is what I was talking about when I said these museums were immersive. They are wonderful.

Well we are now fully starting our new project, the 1905 John Johnson House. This one is such a favorite of mine because she just stands out.
John Johnson was an immigrant who worked for Charles Schifferdecker as his groundskeeper and what seems to me a modern day version of a personal assistant.
He married Charles’ niece, Elizabeth and the couple lived in this house until the death of both Schifferdeckers. John and Elizabeth inherited the estate and, rumor has it, moved into the big house for only six months before moving back to the gardeners cottage; apparently she felt the place was haunted and could hear her aunts petticoats rustling on the stairs. This is a long one… I also say the words “really” “neat” “awesome” and “cool” entirely too much. Sorry not sorry.
But we had an absolute blast doing the Lofts Tour put on by the Downtown Joplin Alliance. So many cool spaces to checkout.
I truly love living in this city.
Also if you haven’t checked out Starry Eyed Girl Joplin you are missing out on great wine and creative snacks, those olives though. The Main Event Downtown Joplin Alliance The Joplin Carnegie Library Briley’s Silver Screen Ice Cream, Soda, and Gift Shop
