Many of the bricks being placed throughout the Village honor a loved one, celebrate a special milestone, recognize a family member, or tell a story of hope, perseverance, and new beginnings.

We would love to hear the story behind your brick.

đź’¬ Who are you honoring?
đź’¬ What memory inspired your purchase?
đź’¬ What does your brick represent to you and your family?

Share your story in the comments, send us a private message, or email us your story and a photo. With your permission, we may feature selected stories on our social media pages to inspire others and celebrate the lives and journeys represented throughout the Village.

Together, we are building more than homes—we are building a community filled with stories, memories, hope, and purpose.

Vita Nova Village is about more than building houses; it’s about building a lasting community of hope. We’re creating a place where self-integrity is rebuilt, self-reliance is strengthened, and meaningful connections take root.

This is a community where friendships and support systems extend far beyond our walls, designed to stand strong when life gets difficult, and to help ensure that homelessness does not become part of someone’s story again.

.We want to clarify some inaccurate information currently being shared.

Vita Nova Village is a nonprofit focused on providing safe housing and pathways to employment for individuals experiencing homelessness. Our program will include private living spaces, on-site support services, and partnerships designed to help residents return to work and long-term independence.

To date, Vita Nova Village has received only one federal grant. That grant was specifically designated for the purchase of a mobile shower and laundry trailer to serve individuals experiencing homelessness.

Vita Nova Village does partner with YouthBuild, a program that
receives federal funding to help young people without a high school diploma obtain their GED while gaining construction training and work experience. While YouthBuild participants help construct homes at the Vita Nova Village site as part of their training, Vita Nova Village does not receive funding from YouthBuild.

The majority of funds donated directly to Vita Nova Village have been used to remove and replace contaminated soil across the entire 1.7-acre property in preparation for building safe housing.

We welcome respectful questions and are always happy to provide accurate information to anyone who wants to learn about the community.

Community Safety & Homelessness in Joplin — Let’s Talk Solutions.
Across the country, and right here in Joplin, communities are asking hard questions about how homelessness impacts neighborhood safety, local businesses, and public spaces.
The truth? Ignoring the issue doesn’t make it safer. Moving people from one place to another doesn’t solve it either.
At Vita Nova Village, we believe real community safety starts with stable housing, accountability, and opportunity.
When individuals have:
✔️ A safe place to live
✔️ Access to mental health and wellness support
✔️ Pathways to employment
✔️ Clear expectations and structure
… our entire community becomes stronger.
Homelessness is not just a housing issue. It’s a workforce issue. A public health issue. A human dignity issue.
Joplin is a generous, forward-thinking community. We have the ability to lead with solutions that balance compassion and responsibility — creating safer streets and restored lives at the same time.
If you believe long-term solutions are better than temporary fixes, join us.
Together, we build safety through stability. đź’™

Today we honor Homeless Person’s Memorial Day — a day to remember those experiencing homelessness who died this year, and to reaffirm our commitment to solutions that save lives.

People experiencing homelessness live far shorter lives than those who are housed. Multiple studies show that adults who are unhoused often die decades earlier than the general population — with average ages at death in the 40s–50s, compared with life expectancy near 78 years in the U.S. population at large, representing roughly 15–20 years of life lost on average.

This tragic gap reflects the extreme vulnerabilities of homelessness. Mortality risk for unhoused people is about 3.5 times higher than for people who are housed, even after accounting for age and other characteristics.
