Attention all Lee County Citizens if you notice any suspicious vehicles or people in your neighborhood ref to a rise in theft's of copper from Verizon lines and abandoned homes across Lee County. THE LEE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE MAY 2026 MONTHLY ACTIVITY REPORT:

Total calls received by the Lee County Dispatch Office: 3,977.
Total Calls received that Deputies responded to 1,035.
There were 508 calls Dispatched to the Fire Warden, Conservation Officer, VDOT, Juvenile Services, Department of Social Services, Animal Control, Virginia State Police, and the Towns of Jonesville and Pennington Gap Police Departments.
There were 267 Rescue Squad calls dispatched.
There were 41 Fire Department Calls dispatched.
Deputies escorted 10 funerals.
Deputies unlocked 44 vehicles for the citizens of Lee County.
Deputies served 82 Felony and Misdemeanor Warrants, 104 Subpoenas, 22 Show Cause Summons and 368 Civil Papers for the three Lee County Courts.
Deputies served 36 Protective Orders. Deputies processed 40 people on 63 charges.
Lee County Sheriff’s Office executed 7 Search Warrants.
Lee County Deputies traveled 49,287 miles, with 388 miles on transports.
Deputies transported 2 juveniles, 0 mental health patients and 3 prisoners from other jurisdictions.

Lee County Sheriff’s Office is saddened by this news and our thoughts and prayers for the families of the Carroll County Deputies, Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of Carroll County.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

At approximately 9:26 p.m., the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office received a request from a family member to conduct a welfare check at 13658 Fancy Gap Highway.

Carroll County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the residence. Upon arrival, two deputies made contact with a male subject identified as Michael Puckett. During the encounter, Puckett opened fire on the responding deputies. Deputies returned fire.

Both deputies were struck by gunfire. One deputy sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. The second deputy was struck in his ballistic vest and is currently receiving medical evaluation and is reported to be in stable condition.

Michael Puckett fled the scene and remains at large. A coordinated law enforcement search is currently underway.

Puckett should be considered armed and extremely dangerous. Anyone who sees him or has information regarding his whereabouts is urged not to approach him and to immediately call 911.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
