As income tax season approaches, we would like to share an article from yesterday’s Powell Valley News. Due to staff reductions in our office, we regret that we will not be able to offer the VITA income tax preparation service this year.

The good news is that the VITA program will continue in Lee County. We are pleased to announce that AppCAA will be providing this service. AppCAA has successfully operated a VITA site in Scott County for more than 20 years and has agreed to expand its services into Lee County. Their office is located at 119 Hill St., Jonesville, VA 24263. In the coming days, you will be able to go to their website at www.appcaa.org to schedule an appointment to drop your taxes off. This will be done as a drop off site and the taxes will not be prepared while you wait.

We are very grateful to AppCAA for stepping up to ensure this important service remains available to the citizens of Lee County.

Please note that our office will continue to process completed Virginia state income tax returns and Virginia state estimated tax payments for those who wish to file locally rather than mailing them directly to Richmond.

Due to a software issue, our online property card search is currently down. The estimated downtime is 1-2 weeks before it will be restored. In the meantime, you can still call, email us, or come by, and we can print, email, or fax the information to you. This does not affect the information on the GIS system, as everything there is still functional except for the link to the land card feature. Your patience and understanding of this issue are greatly appreciated.
