🎥📚Get ready for an all ages fall reading challenge that not only involves reading your favorite books, but also watching your favorite spooky movies! Take in stories in multiple ways, log them in Beanstack, and earn free books along the way!

📲Download the Beanstack app or visit https://wclibrarytn.beanstack.org/reader365 to prepare for the challenge. (If you already have an account with Washington County Public Library, you do not need to create a new one.)

📅The challenge will be open for pre-registration after Labor Day. Logging begins Monday, September 21st and continues through October! 🎃

📖Story times are back at both libraries this week, and we'll also host our first sessions of Little Readers, an early literacy workshop for families to learn easy strategies to increase literacy practice at home. These programs act as a supplement to story time to help set your little ones up for reading success! Lessons are developed and taught in conjunction with ETSU's America Reads tutoring program.

♟Ages 8-17 are invited to check out our first session of our volunteer-led Chess Club! All skill and experience levels are welcome!

♟️Ages 8 to 17 can join us for our volunteer-led Chess Club at the Gray Library! The first session will be on Tuesday, September 1st at 4 p.m. Learn the basics of chess and play with others who love the game! No registration required and all skill levels welcome!

📖Families of ages 0-3 are invited to join us for Little Readers, an early literacy workshop designed in partnership with ETSU's America Reads program. In these workshop sessions, caregivers will learn easy strategies to support early literacy skills that can be facilitated with materials found in the home.

🗓Sessions will be offered at both libraries throughout the fall. No registration is required. Call (423) 477-2027 if you would like more information!

📚Story times resume at both libraries next week!

👶🏾Book Babies (ages 0-2) is designed for infants and young toddlers with their caregivers. The story time is based on the early literacy components of singing, talking, playing, reading, and writing. It usually consists of 5-6 active songs/rhymes, 2-3 short stories, and a structured play/social time afterward for caregivers and children.

🎓Little Learners is a story time that focuses on kindergarten readiness. It usually consists of 3-4 longer stories with active songs and rhymes in between. There is a craft/activity time afterward for children to practice basic skills such as coloring, cutting, pasting, etc. and to exercise their creativity! Caregivers are encouraged to participate with their children.

🗓Book Babies takes place at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays at Gray and Wednesdays and Fridays at Jonesborough. We ask that participants choose one session to attend to avoid overcrowding. Little Learners takes place at 11 a.m. on Tuesdays at Gray and Fridays at Jonesborough. Join us next week for story time fun!

📚Do you think you can keep up with this little bookworm? Join one of our ongoing reading challenges in Beanstack to track reading at your child's pace year round!

👶🏼1000 Books Before Kindergarten is designed for children birth to five and their caregivers. Log the books you are reading to your child to build vocabulary, learn book handling skills, and bond over stories!

🚸500 Books Before Middle School is designed for children in grades K-5 as they work to read independently, practice fluency, and find their favorite stories!
