Weekend programs and information for the next Women in the Woods event in July. All normal programs this weekend are free and open to the public.

Women in the Woods sunset kayak cruise is on July 5. Registration is required and there are a limited number of kayaks. Cost is $18. Call the park to register and pay at 870-932-2615.

For our Women and the Woods foragers that are signed up, we’ll be doing calls tomorrow to say this as well, but we have the pavilion off-market Sunday. So if the weather is not in our favor, we’ll still be good to go! Bring a rain jacket or hiking clothes with weather in mind. We’ll still do the hike portion if it’s just a sprinkle for those up to it. If it’s a downpour/thundering, we’ll just have more time to craft some amazing goodies in the shelter of the pavilion. Despite the forecast, we have had some amazing stretches of clear of skies to get out on the water. Finish out your Memorial Day weekend on Monday with hitting the lake! The park has a scheduled guided kayak cruise at 2pm (call the park to register) OR you can go at your own time with the new kayak kiosk located by the Game and Fish boat ramp/kayak launch. The kiosk is outfitted with two tandems and 6 solos and is open from 6 am to 9 pm so you can get those sunsets in.

Cost of kayak cruise: $18 for adults, $12 for kids (6-12 years old)

Lake Frierson State Park is celebrating Memorial Day by Keeping Arkansas Beautiful! On Saturday, the park is hosting a Great American Cleanup. Come out to the park to enjoy activities like fishing, hiking, and boating, and swing by the Visitor Center to get cleanup supplies and a t-shirt while supplies last to keep the park beautiful while you enjoy your day.

Scheduled programs for the day include:
Wildflower Walk: Join the park interpreter to see the results of restoration efforts by previous volunteers along the trail and in the wildflower field. Learn to identify wildflowers that are the result of keeping AR beautiful.
Time: 10 am - 11 am
Meeting Location: Visitor Center

Keep Arkansas Beautiful: Join the park interpreter in a group to hit needed cleanup areas in the park and/or team up for a citizen science project that fights invasives in the park. Your actions will help Keep Arkansas (and Lake Frierson State Park) Beautiful!
Time: 2 pm - 4 pm
Meeting Location: Visitor Center

For our parents, this day (and other cleanup days in parks) are great ways for your high schoolers to get those needed volunteer hours in!

Upcoming Women in the Woods event on June 7. Join us for a foraging workshop. Learn about useful plants that can be found in the woods/fields and then how to prepare those plants for sweet treats and more. Some plants will be prepped to go home, but use that *tv show magic* with pre-prepared samples for you to try, and so spots for this one are limited. Call the park at 870-932-2615 to sign up!

Fly Fishing 101 with the women in the woods! 🎣

A day well spent in the woods, learning something new and a little outside our comfort zones. We started with the basics—how to cast—then got hands-on creating our own flies, and wrapped it all up by putting those skills to the test on the water.
