Sheriff’s Office Removes Significant Quantity of Illegal Narcotics from Our Community
The Jackson Parish Sheriff’s Office has removed a significant amount of illegal narcotics from our community following a prolonged investigation into the distribution of synthetic ma*****na.
On April 29, 2026, narcotics investigators executed two search warrants. During those searches, investigators seized approximately 12 pounds of synthetic ma*****na, commonly referred to locally as “mojo.” The seized narcotics had an estimated street value of approximately $20,000. Investigators also seized a money counter and a firearm.
Synthetic ma*****na is especially dangerous because it is often made with chemical compounds that can vary greatly in strength and effect. Users may experience severe reactions, including extreme agitation, hallucinations, seizures, overdose symptoms, and other serious medical emergencies.
As a result of the investigation, James Ronyez Jones was arrested and booked into the Jackson Parish Jail on the following charges:
La. R.S. 40:966(A)(1), Distribution of Synthetic Ma*****na, 4 counts
La. R.S. 40:966(A)(1), Possession of Synthetic Ma*****na with Intent to Distribute
La. R.S. 14:95.1(A)(1), Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
La. R.S. 14:95(E), Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance
Sheriff Brent D. Barnett said illegal drugs and fi****ms remain a serious concern for the safety of Jackson Parish residents.
“Our office will continue working to remove dangerous drugs and weapons from our communities,” Sheriff Barnett said. “Synthetic ma*****na has caused serious problems in communities across the state, and we take these cases seriously.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
No further information will be released at this time due to the ongoing nature of the investigation. Case-specific details will not be discussed in the comment section.
