Career day at Pointe South Middle School was a resounding success. This year's gifted 6th graders asked remarkable questions. I would be thrilled to participate in career day on a weekly basis. Their eagerness is more revitalizing to me than my presence is to them. Can't wait until next time!

In August 2024, Mr. Traylor plead guilty to at least his second DUI offense within 5 years and I sentenced him DUI court, an accountability court, and transferred his case to his county of residence, Henry County.

I told him I was going to check on his progress with as I was good friends with Judge Chaundra Lewis who presided over the DUI court in Henry County at the time. Mr. Traylor told me he would come back and inform me when he graduated from that court.

Yesterday, while knee deep in cases and feeling very frustrated with several defendants, Mr. Traylor came back to my courtroom to let me know he graduated from DUI Court and had been sober for 20 months! I was elated! I stood and asked others to stand to honor him with a round of applause.

God keeps reminding me of the importance of this job and rooting for people to improve their lives, especially when I get weary...Thank you, God for the reminder and thank you, Mr. Traylor for accepting help and improving your life!

Hopefully, we can get even more accountability courts that provide the tools for people to repair their lives in our overworked justice system.

It was a pleasure to welcome these students to my courtroom last week during their tour of the courthouse! The Brown Elementary students brightened up my day!

I extend my gratitude to our Court Administration office and all other elected officials and department heads who facilitate these tours and engage with our students.

Many leaders lead quietly in the background. You cannot see them or hear them but you feel the changes they make.

Our State Court Clerk Tiki Brown is one of those leaders. Whenever I ask how we can be more efficient or save the county money, she gets it done or has a great idea as to how to do it.

She created a process for litigants to obtain their court dispositions by scanning QR codes reducing paper costs.

Her latest feat is bringing the ability of our court to accept Google Pay and Apple Pay to bring us into the 21st century. Something that may seem simple but not so much for a government entity. We didn't have it yesterday but we have it today.

Thanks to our awesome State Court Clerk, Tiki Brown! (Sorry for the blurred photo but she does not take many photographs).

This summer I tried something new and brought on a summer intern, Cydney, a rising 2nd year law student at Georgia State. This young lady was simply a God-send to my chambers. She and my staff got along wonderfully. Our in-depth discussions of cases and the law made me giddy. Thank you, Cydney, for all of your hard work and good luck on your 2nd year!

After serving 7 years as my judicial assistant and about 13 additional years in the Clayton County State Clerk's office and Clayton County Solicitor General's office, Anna Pavon retired on this past Friday.

People like her do not come along often. She will be missed.

Thank you, Anna for all you have done to help me be the judge I have been....

Thank you to Riverdale Middle School and North Clayton Middle School for allowing Judge Chaundra Lewis and myself to come and talk about the benefits of mock trial! The students did an outstanding job with the exercise and asked some super questions. We have some great future leaders in our county!

During my first or second year on the bench, I had the pleasure of having one of my fav neo-soul artists, Angie Stone, come to my courtroom. She was there as a mother and as badly as I wanted to tell her I was a fan, I remained professional and impartial.

But what I really admired and appreciated was how Ms. Stone personally showed up that day for her family...she didn't just rely on attorneys or assistants.

Prayers to her family and friends...May God give them the strength to adjust to this loss!

Rest well and thank you for the music...

Judge Chaundra Lewis, State Court of Henry County, and I have started demonstrative mock trial sessions for middle school students in Clayton and Henry Counties We have the students conduct a short trial during one of their class periods.

We have already been Luella and McDonough Middle schools and we have Forest Park Middle coming in January 2025! We aim to expose students to the benefits of mock trial competition in hopes they may choose to try out for a team when they enter high school.

So far, the students have really impressed us with their abilities to present the case and provide solid case analysis in our post-trial discussions. Thanks to the educators who have agreed to give us this opportunity to meet and interact with their students!
