I still remember the morning of September 11, 2001.

I took the train into downtown Chicago for work, where I was a legal analyst at the National Anti-Vivisection Society. When I arrived at the office, everyone was gathered around the television, watching the images of the Twin Towers billowing with smoke. It was difficult to comprehend what we were seeing. We didn't know the full extent of the damage, how many people had been hurt, or what was happening.

There was also a very real sense of uncertainty. We wondered whether Chicago could be next. Not long after arriving, I left the office and made my way through the train station crowds to catch the next train home. I remember feeling worried, confused, and asking myself how something like this could have happened.

What I remember most about the days that followed, however, was how Americans came together. Regardless of our differences, there was a shared sense of patriotism and a common desire to protect our country. For a time, those things that divided us seemed much less important than the things that united us.

More than two decades later, I still think about the lives lost that day and the families, friends, and loved ones who continue to carry that loss. September 11 is a reminder that we should never take our freedoms, our country, or one another for granted.

Let's take a moment to remember those who lost their lives, those who served and sacrificed in the aftermath, and how we were changed by that day.

May we always remember, and may we always keep the values that bring us together at heart.

The Frankfort Fall Festival has been a Labor Day weekend tradition for me since I was a kid, and I love that it has now become something special for Gavin, too!

We spent the weekend enjoying time with family and friends, the carnival and, of course, the parade. This year, Gavin got to walk in it with Frankfort Baseball! ⚾

It was such a fun weekend carrying on a tradition I’ve loved for so many years. ❤️

This last weekend was one of those action-packed baseball Saturdays! Two games, two teams, overlapping schedules and a whole lot of running from one place to the next.

Gavin had a great day on the field, including three innings on the mound and nine strikeouts! We finally wrapped it all up with dinner at Tom Kelly’s in New Lenox, where our starving boy stuffed his face.

Busy, a little chaotic but so much fun. Definitely looking forward to a more relaxing weekend ahead!

Hard to believe it's already September.

Gavin is settling into 5th grade, Pumpkin Spice Lattes are back, and before long the leaves will start changing.

As much as I love summer, there’s a lot to enjoy about this time of year, too.

As I am sure many of you have heard, my law office was struck by a vehicle last week. The collision caused significant damage to the building, including the front entrance to the office. Fortunately, no one was present at the time, and no staff or clients were injured.

While the front entrance remains unavailable, clients may continue to access the office through the side entrance.

This was a deeply troubling and reckless incident. I am very relieved that no one sustained serious injuries and that this situation did not result in an even greater tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with those who were injured, their loved ones, and everyone affected by this incident.

Gavin is officially off to 5th grade.

A new school year always brings a mix of excitement, opportunity, and a reminder of just how quickly time passes.

Wishing all the students, teachers, and families a great year ahead!

With the first day of school right around the corner, we’re squeezing in every last bit of summer we can!

Last weekend, we took Gavin to Joliet to see the Chicago Snowballs take on the Rocket Squirrels, and we had such a fun time. ⚾️ Gavin absolutely loved it!

If you have a baseball fan in your family, I definitely recommend checking out a game. It was a great experience and another fun summer memory together before it’s back to school on the 20th!

We are trying to squeeze in every last bit of summer before Gavin heads back to school on the 20th!

We packed a lot into this trip, including some great family time, a visit to Bearizona Wildlife Park, and even a quick overnight in Las Vegas where Gavin and I saw Michael Jackson ONE.

We had such a great time, and we’re making the most of these last few summer days as the countdown to the first day of school officially begins! ☀️❤️

We picked what felt like one of the hottest days of the summer to visit Brookfield Zoo, but we still had a wonderful time together!

Most of the animals had the right idea and stayed behind the scenes, but Gavin still managed to find his favorite, the sand cat. I’m pretty sure he would have brought him home if he could have. 😊

The perfect ending to the day was a ride on the Ferris wheel, where the clear day treated us to an incredible view of the Chicago skyline.

Love making these summer memories together. ❤️
