Veterans Assistance Commission of Will County

Veterans Assistance Commission of Will County The purpose of the Veterans Assistance Commission of Will County is to protect, promote, and provide needed services to Will County veterans.

The goal of the Veteran Assistance Commission of Will County (VACWC) is to be a clearing house for Will County Veterans and social service agencies within the county. The VACWC has the ability to gain access to resources for very specific veteran needs. Through thorough outreach services, we are able to find, research, and substantiate each resource/agency that we refer our veterans too. Our offic

e believes that no information is better than misinformation. For this reason, we ensure that the agencies, government organizations, and education facilities we work with understand what the VACWC provides, as we understand what they offer. The VACWC has a variety of programs that are able to assist veterans from all time periods. The main goal of the VACWC is to establish a symbiotic relationship with other service agencies. We have identified that honorably discharged veterans have the most success when they are guided to Subject Matter Experts in the various programs offered at the VACWC. The current programs offered at the VACWC are:

• Veterans Financial Assistance
• Employment Assistance Program
• Combat Veteran Counseling
• Homeless Veteran Prevention Program
• Department of Veteran Affair Compensation/Pension

Today, on Women Veterans Day, we proudly honor the courageous women who have served our nation in times of war and peace.

Women have answered the call to serve in every branch of the military, breaking barriers, leading with strength, and making invaluable contributions to our Armed Forces. Their service, sacrifice, and dedication have helped shape our military and our nation.

At the Veterans Assistance Commission of Will County, we are especially proud of the women veterans in our community and on our team who continue to serve others long after taking off the uniform. Your leadership, resilience, and commitment inspire us every day.

To all women veterans—thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and the example you set for future generations.

Today, we remember D-Day.

On June 6, 1944, Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy in one of the largest military operations in history. Thousands of courageous service members faced unimaginable danger to defend freedom and help liberate Europe.

We honor those who fought, those who sacrificed, and those who never returned home. Their bravery changed the course of history, and their legacy must never be forgotten.

Today we join the veteran community in mourning the loss of Diane Carlson Evans, founder of the Vietnam Women’s Memorial and a true trailblazer for women veterans.

Diane was an Army nurse who served in Vietnam and spent decades fighting to ensure the women who served during the Vietnam War were seen, honored, and remembered. Her work led to the dedication of the Vietnam Women’s Memorial in Washington, D.C., in 1993 — a lasting tribute to the courage, compassion, and sacrifice of the women who served.

Her legacy is more than a memorial. It is a reminder that women have always been part of America’s military history, often serving with quiet strength and without the recognition they deserved.

As a veteran community, we owe Diane Carlson Evans our gratitude for her service, her advocacy, and her unwavering determination to make sure women veterans were never forgotten.

Rest in peace, Diane. Your legacy will continue to inspire generations of women veterans.

Today, we recognize Victory in Europe Day.

On May 8, 1945, Allied forces accepted the surrender of N**i Germany, marking the end of World War II in Europe. This day stands as a powerful reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of the men and women who served during one of the most difficult chapters in world history.

At the VACWC, we honor the service of our World War II veterans, remember those who never made it home, and recognize the generations of military families whose lives were forever changed by their sacrifice.

Their bravery helped secure freedom for millions, and their legacy continues to inspire us today.
