✔️As the General Assembly concludes its spring session, we secured several investments aimed at making life more affordable for Illinois families. From pausing the scheduled Motor Fuel Tax increase for six months to providing a Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday this August, these measures will help ease everyday costs for working families.💵

🍴The FY27 budget also includes nearly $100 million in food assistance, including one-time $400 FRESH payments for eligible families who lost SNAP benefits, support for free breakfast and lunch programs in our schools, and new investments to expand access to fresh, healthy food in underserved communities. 🥦

These practical steps help put families first and help ensure Illinoisans have the support they need. Over the coming days, I will be highlighting additional ways new legislation has secured critical investments for Illinois families in regards to healthcare. ❤️‍🩹

We are sharing the following information provided by ComEd for residents impacted by recent storm-related outages.

ComEd reports that more than 529,000 customers have had power restored so far, with crews continuing restoration efforts across the region. If you are still without power and have not yet reported your outage, please do so through the ComEd app or by calling 1-800-Edison-1. Reporting outages helps crews identify and address remaining issues.

ComEd advises that large-scale repairs are still underway and cannot provide restoration timelines for specific addresses. Their goal is to achieve majority restoration by Saturday evening, though power will continue to be restored as repairs are completed.

Please note: Our office is not affiliated with ComEd and cannot provide outage updates or restoration estimates. We are simply sharing this information for residents affected by the storm.

🚨The City of Joliet is inviting residents to attend two presentations on June 17 featuring urban planning expert Joe Minicozzi of Urban3, who will share insights into the ways Joliet is growing and what that growth means for the community.

🗓️The first presentation, a Lunch and Learn focused on the Joliet Economic Analysis Report, will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Harrah’s Joliet Hotel & Casino. Attendees will hear an in-depth discussion of the report and gain a better understanding of the city's economic development trends. The cost to attend is $30 for Chamber members and $40 for nonmembers, and a buffet lunch is included with registration.

🌆Later that evening, Minicozzi will also be presenting a free community program. Doors open at 6:30pm at Billie Limacher Bicentennial Park. The presentation begins at 7pm and residents will have the opportunity to learn more about Joliet’s growth goals and what the city’s future development could mean for neighborhoods, businesses, and the community overall. Complimentary popcorn and water will be provided, and the event will conclude with a question-and-answer session where attendees can engage directly in the conversation. 📣

Both presentations are a great opportunity for residents to gain a deeper understanding of Joliet’s goals for growth and participate in discussions about our city’s future. 🌱

June is Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month, bringing attention to those with diseases that may affect their brain health causing them to struggle with their daily life.

Bringing awareness to these diseases helps create understanding, reducing lack of proper care and stigmatism. Some early symptoms of neurological issues can include frequent headaches, problems with coordination, and issues with memory.

We welcome those in Illinois and the 43rd district to learn more about this topic. If you’d like to support this meaningful cause, visit the link below to find volunteer opportunities! 💜🧠

With the General Assembly concluding its spring session, we have secured several investments aimed at making life more affordable for Illinois residents.

We were able to ensure $250 million overall for new missing middle (duplexes, triplexes, townhouses, and courtyard apartments that provide attainable housing for middle-income families) and other affordable housing programs at IHDA and DCEO. This funding will cover $100 million for a new Missing Middle Housing Infrastructure (M2I) Grant Program at DCEO to connect developers to the capital needed to construct new, affordable homes. 🏘️

Another $100 million from the overall total will cover for missing middle initiatives and other affordable housing programs at IHDA specifically aimed to help developers build and preserve more affordable, market-rate homes to address the state's inventory shortage. The final $50 million will be used for Opening Doors and SmartBuy down payment assistance programs at IHDA.

Over the coming days, I will be highlighting additional ways our legislation secured critical investments for Illinois families, including support for everyday costs and healthcare.

Representatives of my office and I attended the Will County Center for Economic Development's Eye Opener Breakfast to learn about the growth that has taken place throughout the county over the past decade, as well as the plans in place to help continue that growth into the future.

Will County is currently the number one county in Illinois for population growth, and the area has created more than 37,232 jobs between 2016 and 2025. 📈

This growth has also continued through housing development, with the county implementing multiple new housing options for residents across several townships throughout the district. We still have a lot more work to do on the housing front but we are moving in the right direction.

Thank you to the Will County CED for bringing local leaders together so we can continue to stay informed and aware of the current trends, opportunities, and needs of the regions we serve. 💡

Starting this June, there have been some changes and improvements to the PACE bus systems throughout our district and how they connect us to the greater Chicagoland region.

Key Updates include:
Route 501 now extends to Caton Farm Rd & IL 59 with more frequent service and longer hours. This expansion allows for residents to have improved access to shopping, jobs, and Joliet Junior College.

I-55 express service through routes 850, 851, and 855 has been streamlined to be more unified between the routes with designated stops and expanded bus-on-shoulder operations to help commuters move faster. Within the city limits, these routes will also be enforcing only dropping off passengers on eastbound routes and only picking up passengers on westbound routes within the city limits to streamline time in transit for passengers.

These expansions have the goal of helping unify the west suburbs to one another and allow our area more access to other suburbs and the city of Chicago. While these two routes do not have any direct connection stops, these expansions are a step towards our overall region being more unified through public transportation and making our area more accessible to residents overall. 🚂

If you travel along Scott Street/Route 53, be aware that resurfacing work is now underway between Chicago Street and Ruby Street in Joliet. The project began Friday June 5th and is expected to continue throughout the Summer and early Fall, weather permitting. 🚧

During construction, drivers can expect intermittent daytime lane closures and some delays throughout the corridor. While access to homes and businesses will remain open, it may take a little extra time to get through the area, especially during peak travel hours. 🚗

The roadway improvements are part of a $1.5 million investment to improve driving conditions along this stretch of Scott Street. If you're traveling through the area, please use caution, follow posted signs, and watch for construction crews at work.👷
