The ceremony begins at 7:30 AM at the Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center Campus (Flynn St) with a parade of cyclists and EMS vehicles through downtown Johnstown immediately after.

The Emergency Health Services Federation (ESHF) proudly celebrated its annual 25-Year Star Award Ceremony, recognizing the continued dedication and service of EMS providers across the Commonwealth. The ceremony was held on Thursday, May 21, at the Pennsylvania State Capitol in Harrisburg. Nearly 200 EMS providers were nominated to receive the prestigious 25-Year Award this year, with close to 80 recipients present to accept their stars in recognition of a quarter-century of commitment to emergency medical services.

Among this year’s honorees was Rich Steel, Clinical Coordinator for the Conemaugh School of EMS and paramedic with Conemaugh DART. Throughout the past 25 years, countless patients and students have benefited from Rich’s expertise, leadership, and unwavering commitment to excellence in EMS.

At a time when the national average career span for EMS providers is less than 6.5 years, Rich’s longevity and dedication to the profession serve as a remarkable testament to his passion and calling as a paramedic. Congratulations Rich! 🎉

EMS Week 2026 - Day 5: CONEMAUGH CONSORTIUM and MEDICAL COMMAND

Strong prehospital care depends on collaboration, leadership, and medical oversight. Through the Conemaugh Consortium and Medical Command system, EMS agencies across the region are supported with physician guidance, clinical coordination, education, and quality improvement initiatives that help maintain high standards of patient care. By fostering partnerships between hospitals, EMS providers, and healthcare leaders, the Consortium helps strengthen the entire regional emergency care network and ensures patients receive consistent, evidence-based care from the field to the hospital.

EMS Week 2026 - Day 4: CONEMAUGH MEDSTAR

Conemaugh MedSTAR delivers fast, friendly and focused critical care transport capabilities to patients throughout western Pennsylvania and beyond. The MedSTAR flight team specializes in rapid transport of critically ill and injured patients while providing advanced interventions typically found only in an intensive care setting. From trauma and cardiac emergencies to neonatal and specialty care transports, MedSTAR’s highly trained crews help bring advanced medicine directly to the patient while serving as an important extension of the Conemaugh Health System’s specialty services.

The Conemaugh DART Transport team of EMTs and paramedics help keep patients moving safely through the healthcare system by providing reliable interfacility transportation for patients requiring continued medical care and monitoring. Completing over 1,000 transports annually, the team plays an essential role in improving hospital throughput, supporting regional healthcare access, and ensuring patients can receive the right care at the right place and time. Their professionalism and dedication help connect hospitals, providers, and patients across the region every day.

The Conemaugh DART paramedics serve as a critical link between local EMS agencies and the advanced resources of Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. Responding to more than 2,000 calls annually, DART paramedics bring advanced clinical care, decision-making support, and strong field partnerships directly to the patient’s side. Working alongside area EMS providers, they help deliver high-acuity care in challenging environments while supporting better patient outcomes throughout the region.
