What does childhood hunger look like in Cambria County?

According to Feeding America’s 2024 data, 5,290 children in Cambria County experienced food insecurity. That's about 1 in every 5 children (20.9%).

🍎 73% of food-insecure children are estimated to have incomes at or below 185% of the federal poverty level, making them potentially eligible for federal nutrition programs.

🍎 The average meal in Cambria County costs approximately $3.66.

🍎 Together, food-insecure households face an estimated $13.7 million annual food budget shortfall.

These aren't just statistics. They're our community.
That's why we're working to reduce childhood hunger, one backpack at a time.

Today, we pause to remember. 🕊️

On September 11th, we remember the lives lost, the families affected, and all those who showed incredible courage and compassion during and after one of our nation's darkest days.

25 years later, one lesson remains just as important: when we take care of one another, our communities are stronger and the spirit of looking out for our neighbors is something we carry with us.

Hunger isn't always obvious. It can look like a student who can't concentrate or a child who skips breakfast. It can be a parent choosing between groceries and another bill or a child who worries about what they'll eat over the weekend.

Hunger doesn't always look like hunger. If you or someone you know could benefit from weekend meals, please use the application below:
