Input Session – Borough Playgrounds
Geistown Borough Planning Commission (GBPC)
Thursday, September 24, 2026
There are two
playgrounds in Geistown
Borough, Boise Street
and Euclid Avenue, each
serving the immediate
neighborhoods. Facilities,
utilization and conditions
in each playground varies,
but it is recognized that
playgrounds are important
for a well-rounded and
family-friendly residential
neighborhood.
While Borough forces are attending to certain maintenance items in each playground,
reviewing the facility and apparatus needs seems to be a timely matter. In this regard, the
GBPC is welcoming input and comment on potential improvements by the residents,
businesses and agencies serving Geistown Borough.
A portion of the regular
GBPC September meeting
will be devoted to receiving
this input, which will be
used to prepare short- and
longer-term improvement
plans that reflect the needs
of local families and
residents.
The input session will be held in the Borough Council Room, 721 East Oakmont
Blvd., at 6:00 pm on September 24th.

KNOW BEFORE YOU RIDE – E-SCOOTERS AND E-BIKES: RULES, SAFETY, AND RESPONSIBILITY

Geistown Borough Police Department would like to remind residents of Pennsylvania laws and important safety concerns regarding the increasing use of electric bikes and electric scooters.

Under Pennsylvania law, e-bike riders must be at least 16 years of age, and e-scooters are not permitted on public roads or sidewalks. E-Scooters can only be operated in the State of Pennsylvania on private property.

Officers have observed a rise in unsafe behaviors, including riders not wearing helmets, operating in traffic without proper experience, riding at night without lights, and multiple riders on a single device. These actions significantly increase the risk of serious injury, particularly for juveniles who may lack the experience to safely navigate roadways.

Geistown Borough Police Department will be increasing enforcement efforts, and violations may result in citations.

Parents and guardians are urged to ensure their children understand the laws and follow proper safety measures, including wearing helmets and using appropriate lighting, to help keep everyone in the community safe.

NOTICE – TENTATIVE PAVING SCHEDULE

Residents of the following streets in Geistown Borough are advised that the Quaker Sales Corp. is scheduled to start milling and paving on Wednesday July 29, 2026, under contract with the Borough.

• Hawthorne Street – between Clearwater Street to Brookside Way
• Kinzey Street – between Alfred Street and Radian Drive
• Lulay Street – between Bedford Street and Dravis Street

Residents are requested to refrain from parking on these streets while milling and paving is in process. We anticipate milling and paving work will last at least through this week. As always, the actual work schedule is subject to change depending on inclement weather and/or scheduling conflicts or unforeseen circumstances encountered by the contractor. Schedule updates/revisions will be posted on the Borough website (https://www.geistownborough.com) and page, or are available by contacting the office during business hours.

Residents of Laurlis Lane in Geistown Borough are notified as follows:

PennDOT has notified the Borough on June 26th that there is a possibility that Leventry Road between Bedford St. & Laurlis Lane will be closed Tuesday June 30th, and/or Wednesday July 1st and/or Thursday July 2nd. During this time traffic will be temporarily routed over Laurlis Lane. Traffic volumes are expected to temporarily increase during these days, and our Police department has been advised accordingly. Residents are urged to keep this in mind and avoid parking on this Borough Street by residents, visitors and service providers during this temporary detour.

The access driveway from East Oakmont Boulevard to the Borough of Geistown Municipal, Police and Public Works buildings will be limited and/or temporarily closed to allow the replacement of culvert pipe and driveway segment beginning Monday June 22nd, and continuing for at least an estimated 21-day period, weather-dependent. This project is needed to correct a periodic flooding event caused by an undersized pipe carrying Sams Run.

Public access will be limited and/or even prohibited at times during this construction period. If you need to visit these offices during this period it is suggested that you call ahead to see if pedestrian or vehicle access is possible (Borough Office/Public Works 814-266-8313; Geistown Police 814-262-7326 or Non-Emergency 814-472-2100). The Borough has arranged for a secure drop box to be located near the driveway for the complex on East Oakmont Boulevard where payments for fees, permits, etc. may be made. Residents are urged to make payments via checks in the drop box, or via the electronic payment option available on our website (https://www.geistownborough.com/online-payments).

The Borough will post periodic updates on the project on our website (https://www.geistownborough.com) and page, as/if situations dictate. While we apologize for any temporary inconvenience we are confident that the project will resolve a recurring periodic flooding problem.
