At last night's Common Council Meeting, Mayor Amy Praught read a proclamation recognizing June 2026 as LGBTQ+ Pride Month in the City of Johnstown. The proclamation states:
WHEREAS, the City of Johnstown is strengthened by the diversity of its residents and the many contributions they make to our community; and
WHEREAS, Pride Month serves as both a celebration and a time of reflection—honoring the courage, resilience, and contributions of LGBTQ+ individuals, recognizing the struggles they have endured throughout history, and reaffirming the importance of treating all people with dignity, respect, and compassion; and
WHEREAS, LGBTQ+ individuals help enrich our neighborhoods, workplaces, schools, places of worship, businesses, and civic life, contributing to the strength and character of our community; and
WHEREAS, the City of Johnstown believes that every person deserves to be treated with kindness, dignity, and respect, and that a strong community is built when all people feel welcome and valued;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Amy Praught, Mayor of the City of Johnstown, New York, do hereby proclaim the month of June 2026 as Pride Month in the City of Johnstown, New York, and encourage all residents to reflect upon the importance of treating one another with kindness and respect, and continue fostering a city where every person is welcomed, valued, and empowered to participate fully in community life.
