Built after the Johnstown flood of 1889, the Inclined Plane's original purpose was to connect downtown with the higher grounds of Westmont Borough in order to develop that area residentially. During Johnstown's two other floods in 1936 and 1977, the Incline became a lifesaver, helping people to escape downtown as well as to ship supplies into the valley. This was largely due to the steel mills that were in operation. Today the Incline welcomes visitors and locals alike, carrying approximately 100,000 passengers a year. The Johnstown Inclined Plane is the steepest vehicular incline in the world, meaning its 30' cars, which are large enough to hold 60 people, 6 motorcycles, or a vehicle, travel at the steepest grade for cars their size. No trip to Johnstown is complete without a visit to our world-famous Inclined Plane.

🎉 We’re riding again!

This morning, we welcomed riders back aboard, and it felt so good to see familiar faces (and new ones!) enjoying the ride and taking in the view once more.

Rides are FREE for the first 30 days, so come say hello and experience the Inclined Plane for yourself! Our gift shop is open and ready for you too.

We’ve missed you, Johnstown. Thank you for your patience and support as we worked toward this day.

THE JOHNSTOWN INCLINED PLANE RETURNS TOMORROW! 🎉

Following last week's storm-related postponement, we're excited to announce that the Johnstown Inclined Plane is ready to welcome passengers back!

One of our region's most treasured landmarks will officially return to service on Thursday, September 10 at 11 a.m.

As part of the reopening, CamTran is providing 30 days of free rides beginning on the first day of public operation.

During the initial reopening period, while CamTran continues training additional operators, the Inclined Plane will be open:
-Thursday from 11 a.m.-9 p.m.
-Friday from 11 a.m.-11 p.m.
-Saturday from 11 a.m.-11 p.m.
-Sunday from 11 a.m.-9 p.m.

We appreciate everyone's patience following last week's severe storms and throughout the rehabilitation project. We're excited to finally welcome you back aboard!

IT'S OFFICIAL: The Johnstown Inclined Plane reopens TOMORROW, Friday, September 4! 🎉

One of our region's most treasured landmarks is returning to service, and we can't wait to welcome you back aboard.

As part of the reopening, CamTran is providing 30 days of free rides beginning tomorrow.

During the initial reopening period, while CamTran continues training additional operators, the Inclined Plane will be open the following days and hours:
-Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
-Friday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
-Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The Inclined Plane will also be open on certain holidays, including this Labor Day, Monday, September 7, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Stay tuned for details about a community Grand Reopening Community Celebration in the near future.
