Have training — will travel.

Last week, a Midwest Counterdrug Training Center Mobile Training Team (MTT) traveled to Kalamazoo, Michigan, to conduct Tactical Medicine training for law enforcement and public safety personnel.

MTTs allow MCTC to bring courses directly to requesting agencies across the country, expanding access to valuable, scenario-based training without requiring students to travel to Camp Dodge, in Johnston, Iowa.

Last week, the Midwest Counterdrug Training Center sent a Mobile Training Team to Kalamazoo, Michigan, to deliver our military-led Tactical Medicine course to law enforcement officers and public safety personnel.

MCTC MTTs bring the schoolhouse’s high-quality, no-cost courses directly to requesting agencies across the country, expanding access to training without requiring students to travel to Camp Dodge in Johnston, Iowa.

The Tactical Medicine course prepares law enforcement personnel and basic EMTs to provide advanced first-responder care using Tactical Combat Casualty Care principles. Students train on bleeding control, airway management, chest trauma, IFAK utilization, casualty movement and self-aid and buddy-aid techniques before applying those skills during realistic, scenario-based trauma assessments.

The course is accredited through the Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation program and is one of many MCTC courses exported nationwide through MTTs.

Last week, the Midwest Counterdrug Training Center hosted the Dogs for Law Enforcement International K-9 Summit at Camp Dodge, in Johnston, Iowa, bringing K-9 teams together for advanced tracking and tactical training.

Instructors from five countries shared techniques in scent discrimination, track acquisition and human tracking, giving handlers practical skills they can take back to their agencies and operational missions.

This course provides new narcotics officers with a comprehensive overview of the major responsibilities required of an agent or investigator to handle a case from intelligence to prosecution. Students engage in hands-on practical exercises covering informants, investigative interviewing, physical surveillance, undercover operations, and warrants. The curriculum also details drug identification, current narcotic trends, tactical operational planning, and narcotics crime scene management.

This course provides investigative methodologies to detect and interdict illegal drugs, bulk currency, and human trafficking flowing through legitimate commercial transportation enterprises and service hubs. The curriculum details specialized investigation techniques for airports, commercial trains, buses, parcel shipping companies, hotels, self-storage businesses, and rental vehicle companies. Training emphasizes establishing effective liaisons with civilian counterparts and addresses the interdiction of dangerous items that threat actors may store in preparation for attacks on U.S. soil.

This week, the Midwest Counterdrug Training Center and Iowa National Guard Sexual Assault Prevention & Response Office hosted the Iowa Drug-Facilitated Sexual Assault Training at Camp Dodge, Johnston Iowa.

The two-day course brought multijurisdictional professionals together to strengthen the coordinated response to drug-facilitated sexual assault cases, from initial response and investigation through prosecution. The training focused on forensic science, trauma-informed practices, legal considerations and building a stronger, victim-centered response.

This week, the Midwest Counterdrug Training Center hosted the Dogs for Law Enforcement Canine Seminar at Camp Dodge in Johnston, Iowa, bringing K-9 teams together for advanced, real-world training.

Instructors from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, South Africa and Sweden shared expertise in trail laying, scent discrimination, track acquisition and reacquisition, component tracking and tactical techniques for tracking humans.

Dogs for Law Enforcement seminars are designed to sharpen handlers’ skills, introduce evolving techniques and help close the gap between training and operational deployments. By bringing experienced instructors and K-9 teams together, the MCTC continues to provide law enforcement professionals with relevant training they can take back to their agencies and communities.

Senior leaders from the South Carolina National Guard visit the Midwest Counterdrug Training Center, July 27, 2026, while touring Iowa National Guard facilities at Camp Dodge in Johnston, Iowa.

Lt. Col. Thomas Karpuk, the Iowa Counterdrug Task Force’s commandant, briefed Maj. Gen. Jeff Jones, South Carolina’s deputy adjutant general; Brig. Gen. Linda Riedel, assistant adjutant general; and Brig. Gen. Chris Hyman, director of the joint staff, on the MCTC’s mission to provide relevant, no-cost training to law enforcement professionals nationwide. The leaders also received an overview of the Iowa Counterdrug Task Force’s operational impact through criminal analysis and Drug Demand Reduction Outreach efforts that strengthen investigations, prevention programs and community partnerships.

Through the service of Iowa Counterdrug Task Force Soldiers and Airmen and the nationwide training delivered by the Midwest Counterdrug Training Center, the Iowa National Guard’s impact extends far beyond state lines.
