As e-scooters and e-bikes become more popular, we'd like to remind you to Ride Safe 'n Smart. Along with putting on a helmet, remember to:

🛴Ride right, pass left. Stay on the right side of the trail. Pass others on the left.
😀Speak up before you pass. Give a friendly call like, “On your left!” so others are not surprised and have time to move.
🚶‍♂️Pedestrians always have the right-of-way. Riders should slow down, yield, and pass with care.
🚲Slow down and stay in control. Even if your e-bike or scooter can go fast, ride at a speed that gives you time to react to people, pets, and turns.
👀Look both ways. Stop and look before you cross the street, go into an intersection, or turn onto another trail or sidewalk.
🔆Be visible. Make sure people can see you, day or night. Use bike lights or reflective gear.

Grimes is partnering with Ankeny, Clive, Indianola, Des Moines, Norwalk, Urbandale, Waukee, and West Des Moines on the metro-wide safety campaign Ride Safe 'n Smart, which focuses on safer riding, clearer expectations, and shared responsibility.

Thanks to everyone who came out to enjoy the Johnston-Grimes Professional Fire Fighters Local 4835 pancake breakfast! A terrific turnout and it was good to see families having fun checking out the equipment and visiting with the firefighters! If you attended the breakfast, what was your favorite part?
