Took some time to do a legislative recap for the Polk County Bar Association. Some good wins this year for the legal community and Iowa related to increased funding for indigent defense and a new rural attorney scholarship program.

For the last few years, my family honors those that served and paid the ultimate sacrifice by observing Memorial Day at the Gold Star Museum on Camp Dodge. The event brings multiple generations of Iowans together to honor our fallen heroes. I want to make sure future generations understand the stories and history of those who fought hard for our freedoms.

A positive story to start your day! We had a Character Counts statement at the beginning of every Council meeting in Urbandale. A great program run by Drake University and former Urbandale legislator Scott Raecker. A little kindness goes a long way!

Kindness 101 is a program that uses the stories CBS News finds in our "On the Road" series to teach kindness and character. The stories are paired with lesson plans created by a nonprofit at Iowa's Drake University called "Character Counts!"

I had the amazing fortune to be invited to listen to the Johnston High School's Cantus choir sing at the Iowa Capitol. It was incredible! Take a moment and treat yourself by listening. This song in particular is a favorite at my house.
